Open the school ASAP to avoid kids from getting depressed. We need to act now before it’s too late. In so doing, strict health and safety protocols be obseved.

My kids (12,14,16) need to be in school for their emotion wellbeing. I heard recently that beds are full in hospitals for kids with mental/emotional challenges & eating disorder clinics have 6 month waiting lists. We need to start reporting these statics with the ER bed stats. For a full picture.

Low-income children are suffering most from school closure, special needs children from low-income families even more. Our children's educational needs to be prioritized over haircuts, bar-hopping, and marijuana. Put teachers ahead of the line for vaccinations, along with doctors and nurses; they are just as fundamental to our kid's lives as hospitals and healthcare. Low-income students shouldn't be left behind because their families cannot afford expensive private tutoring. While officials stall on the re-opening of schools kids are being sunk into the depths of isolation, depression, and regression. While politicians go on vacations and break social-distancing rules to get their hair styled and washed, our kids have sat at computer screens, prevented from socializing with their friends for ENTIRE YEAR now. While white, affluent republicans receive their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, the teachers of our schools have not even been called upon or mentioned on the list of essential workers to be vaccinated. If children are our future, where are the investments in them?

School is necessary to show children a bigger world than a child can see from home.
Casinos and department stores have been opened for nearly a year with precautions in place that frankly aren't even being followed at 100%. Yet our children's education has suffered. If a Casino vmcan open then I see no reason why we cannot reopen our schools and get our children up to speed. Education is more important than a Casino operation or department store or indoor mall.

Why is this even negotiable? Open the schools. Accommodations can be made for teachers at high risk (plus they have sick leave to rely on). If we open schools and teachers fail to show - in violation of their contract - we should part amicably, but part we should. For the past year we've been hectored to "follow the science" but apparently that doesn't apply to the education establishment.
It’s long overdue!
It’s time for schools to open back up
