Safely Re-Open Our Schools

Private schools have been open for months without any outbreaks. Are the students, staff, and teachers super humans? What is the justification for keeping schools closed. After all, science already determined that schools are safe and children are not vectors for the COVID. Are we still following the science or not anymore since it’s no longer convenient?

Please open the elementary schools these kids need to go to school to learn. They are too young to be doing school online . It’s ridiculous . Please we don’t know the damage it could cause later in life . Isolation depression little social skills can’t be good . It can have permanent effects on these children.

Thank you for speaking up for students. Can we include secondary schools in this petition? High school students' learning loss will be passed on to the community colleges, universities and eventually to the companies of our valley at great cost. California students will be competing with students from other states which have opened schools already. These are our kids, and the impact of social isolation and limited instruction on their minds, bodies and spirits is profound.

Open now, with or without vaccinations. The science supports it.

Any elementary student who chooses to go back in person should be able to do so - they shouldn’t have to win a “lottery” for an in person spot, SJUSD

Thank you Mayor Liccardo and TEAM LICCARDO workers. This is good logic, the poor are getting poorer and the poor need to not be left behind. We got to get vaccines to the TEACHERS so I suggest we go to each school site and give vaccines in the the gym. That way it speeds up the assurance that each school and workers get vaccine in timely way. You see Mayor, we must first ensure VACCINE to the teachers and workers around children at each school and too, we must put SAFETY first. I like your thinking of helping elementary schools open, not so on board with the FRANCE kids survey. That sems a bit out there to me.

Thank you Mayor Liccardo and your TEAM. You do good work here in having VISION and showing ACTION too. Also, good analysis of the situation too. We must get those vaccines to TEACHERS too.

I'm an ob/gyn (laborist) first responder/frontline worker, working in the ER, ICU, and L&D, and we are functioning and surviving in the highest risk environment for the most part with masks, hand washing, and being mindful of social distancing. We do this in a more chaotic and less controllable workplace than a classroom. The Teacher's Union's stance, I'm sorry, is a crock in its overblown assessment of the risks, and certainly is not in the best interests of our children. Time for teachers to step up, pull their weight, and behave like first responders, not Nervous Nellys.

Open our schools please. I have personally seen how kids are not learning and that huts me. They can be in their classes (sigh-in) and yet they are not in the classes (away from the computer), the the teachers can’t do anything about it. The students are failing, a year’s “education” is wasted.
