Safe Winter Roads for St. Paul

St Paul snow plow policy is absolutely terrible. My street has large ruts already and one of the corners at the end of the street is more than 4’ from the curb. Why do we wait so long to plow...

Please plow the side streets in a timely fashion. I live in the NE Hillcrest neighborhood and the roads are in terrible condition. A school bus, ambulance and fire truck could not make it up the hill by my house after the last storm. ( Idaho Ave E ) Some salt and sand would really help at intersections like other cities apply. Thank you.

Either plow in a timely manner or step aside and let private business do it efficiently!

Unplowed, unsalted side streets near schools – where there are dozens upon dozens of pedestrians – are hazardous and a public safety concern. After one of the last storms, an elementary school kid was crossing the unplowed intersection near me, and slipped and fell; while attempting to stop my car, it slid, fishtailed and nearly hit him. What’s it going to take, City of St. Paul, before you wake up to the concerns of your citizens?

This winter a snow emergency was not even called when we had 6 inches of snow!! I agree that, as soon as it snows 3" a snow emergency should be called, period.

I've had to blow through stops signs on my side streets due to fear that my car won't be able to get going again if I stopped. That is one small example of how our roads are a major safety issue for both pedestrians and other cars on the roads. I've also had to telework many times this winter due to fear that my car simply wouldn't be able to battle the road conditions and get me home safely.

Working in St. Paul has been a bit scary this year! I have gotten stuck on the side streets and have to pray no one is coming when I go down hills because there’s no way I’m stopping! Would be great if streets could get cleared better and faster.

I fully support this. If Minneapolis can keep their roads plowed in a timely manner so can we.

They need to plow my street on days when they don’t declare a snow emergency too. Too many small snow totals add up to ridiculousness.

I historically have tried to understand the struggle our snow plows deal with and try to remain patient but this year has proven a change is necessary. I appreciate our snow plow drivers but it’s time to step back and reevaluate.

The biggest complaint for me is that the neighbors park in front of my house and do not move their car's in time for the snow plows to come through. Then I get stuck with the snow ring/island right in front of my house. I always end up calling for "push back"/back plow. This year they never showed up, even after calling twice. The city is suppose to be ticketing and towing, but Im not seeing that happening. It's really frustrating considering how much Im paying for maintenance and other city fees.

Wanted to make a note about their 3” policy. Last Sunday it snowed 5-6” in the cities. They didn’t call a snow emergency (despite the fact that it stopped all day Mon.). Then, it snowed again later in the week and the snow piled on top of that previous snow fall meaning they didn’t plow residential streets from the combination of storms until Thursday night - that’s a serious issue for people who park and drive on these streets.

It really is ridiculous that we have to petition for this.

Side street snow clearing is terrible throughout the city.

There is a huge pile of snow on the corner of Snelling and Midway Pkwy. Every time I leave my neighborhood I feel like I’m taking my life in my hands trying to pull out blindly onto Snelling (headed north). Super dangerous. Also, even after plows come through, our street was full of snow and there was enough left for my car to get stuck at the corner. Taxes go way up, snow removal seems to be getting worse.

St. Paul needs to do a better job of plowing. We live on a Day Plow Route which means our street is a mess and residents can't get out of their neighborhoods until after the plows go by. Most days our street doesn't get plowed until nearly noon the following day! Please do a better job! Our taxes are very high and this should be taken care of quicker. Please be more efficient!

We need to tow the cars and haul the snow away. There is no excuse for the mess this year.

Ive lived here for over 30 years. Its embarrassing living here, they can do better, I know public works people in other cities that laugh at St. paul. Its a joke! Change is long overdue!
