Safe Winter Roads for St. Paul

St. Paul take 3 days to plow or 4” of snow And I pay taxes for this

After the plwos came thrugh last Wednesday - there was NO NOTICABLE difference on my street - except that driveways were blocked and sidewalks were covered. The streets were still a mushy disaster.

After not declaring a snow emergency after last Sunday's snowfall, one was declared after Tuesday's. On Wednesday, I came home to snow covering not only the apron of my driveway and the carriage walk, but my entire "public sidewalk." You couldn't tell I had removed snow from any of those areas. So, not only were we driving in ruts for three days, but when the plows finally came, they were "flying" and basically undid all of the snow removal residents had done in front of their houses. When I moved to St. Paul almost 30 years ago from Minneapolis, I couldn't believe how poor the snow removal was. It's only gotten worse.

By administrative design, there is no accountability. At a crucial time, the Public Works Dir. is on "VACATION "

They don’t plow close enough to the street and we end up with ruts!!

The City of St. Paul recently increased taxes on homeowners. The additional tax revenue should be allocated to reform snow removal procedures.

This is long over due!

Side streets are a nightmare. Please come up with a better plan. And thanks to all of your hard working plow drivers & staff.

It’s really sad when you live in Saint Paul and you go to the suburbs and the streets are clean as a whistle and you’re still driving in inches and inches of snow when you come home !! St Paul can do better! Come on Melvin Carter show me why I voted for you !

I work in Mpls. and I notice such a difference in the streets when I drive across the Lake Street bridge. I think they do a much better job and it might be worth looking at their model.

We live one block from Roseville they clean their steets right away after it stops snowing. We want the same.

Side streets need quicker attention

Plowing in St. Paul is an embarrassment. I should not have to help push out an ambulance that is stuck IN THE STREET during a medical emergency. St. Paul is endangering the safety of its residents.

We just moved from Woodbury and have been bitterly disappointed with the plowing. Maybe I should say lack of plowing!! Woodbury has it figured out. While I’m at it, I hate the garbage situation.

The current plowing procedures are laughable at best. We need maintenance plowing, especially on streets with roundabouts. Blair and Griggs is always littered with giant snow cast offs which harden and turn into ice road blocks. With the most recent snow emergency I was home to see the two plows go through, going pretty fast. They left a foot to one and a half feet of 5 inch deep snow in the road closest to the curb. We shoveled it out by hand so we wouldn’t impede cars driving in the road. Besides maintenance plowing, more through plowing is a must! Our streets get narrower and narrower with every snow emergency. I couldn’t imagine the difficulty emergency services has driving our super narrow, icy and unplowed streets.

As someone who works with the elderly in their homes, I feel a duty to make it to work. I also don’t make very much to take the chances I have to to get to my clients in St. Paul. Spent 7 hours for a 3 hour shift the other day, more than half of which was spent trying to get out of a Saint Paul side street.

I need to be able to get to work. Snow or no snow. It’s that simple. I need to be able to get to work.

I was fortunate, as the north end of my alley exits to Falcon Heights -- it was not possible to exit to the St. Paul end without getting stuck. It was so difficult to push out cars with the layer of ice at the bottom. Please do a better job!

I agree. I miss work from not being able to drive on the streets after a heavy snow fall. I get stuck easily and the roads in Saint Paul are herendous.
