Safe Winter Roads for St. Paul

Three to four days after our last snowfall I was still battling getting out of my neighborhood in the west side. When I go over 5 to six blocks to SSP or WSP they are always plowed immediately and the plowing is a quality job. I am a nurse at a hospital and I need the streets clear to get to work. It’s also a safety issue for emergency vehicles.

New resident of St Paul and surprised/disappointed to learn how the plowing is handled.

For the amount of taxes paid inSt Paul, clearing the streets is awful.

Please do this! Our side roads are terrible!

Current snowplow process is a disaster.

Plow the ALL the roads even the side roads.

St. Has always been terrible at plowing. I understand that we have a lot of on street parking but this is something that needs to be worked on. St. Paul residents deserve better.

If our streets get plowed in a timely manner maybe the recycling will actually happen. Hoping for the first time in 3 weeks because of the snow (so I'm told)

Please plow!!! As a pedestrian, no driving due to a disability, this town is a nightmare in the winter!

We need plowing to the curbs. My street doesn’t have alleys on both sides so residents park in the street. There is no way that emergency vehicles could get past to save a life.

The plowing of our streets is horrible. The mayor wants to use 10 million dollars for affordable housing. how about using the 10 million for new roads. this is on top of what ever is allocated now. Thanks for doing this petition Maybe we need a petition for street repair.

I have reached out to the public works office, while they responded quickly the first time to explain their “policy” they did not reapond when I asked them for contact information if I wanted to elevate the issue further, so I’m glad this petition talked about on the next door so. I too believe that the cities approach is dangerous. On two occasions already this year we have had back to back snowfalls of 4-5 inches, which left residents with near a foot of snow on our streets sometimes for 2 days before we would see plows. I was unable to safely get home, getting stuck in intersections multiple times. It impedes people being able to get to work, to use the sidewalks and I worry for anyone who might need any emergency vehicle to get to their home! The lack of snow removal also impeded services like trash and recycling pick up for multiple weeks as well. I had asked the city why they didn’t plow when it was 5 inches and why they waited for it to become 10. Their reasoning is that residents get too confused and angry when they call back-to-back snow emergency’s...so they have decided since then not to do back-to-backs any more and just let all the accumulation happen, rather than persons looking for ways to improve or simplify the process or strengthen their communication plan. It seems to be more than well known that Saint Paul is horrible at their snow removal, which to me says their are better ways of doing it. I’ve lived in the Midwest almost all of my life and never experienced something as atrocious and unacceptable as this. I hope that their is motion for improvement on this as I believe it to be an essential and basic need of a city that knows that snow comes routinely in our territory.

I have a Subaru and have struggled with the roads in my neighborhood. I can only imagine what it is like for those with a 2 wheel drive car. Saint Paul can do better!

It is frustrating to hear the plows quit even if the job isn't done. Both cars in my household have gotten stuck multiple times in the years we have lived in St Paul due to lack of snow removal. I certainly don't expect it to be gone in an hour, but overnight I consider reasonable. I personally have missed work a couple times because I haven't been able to get out of my street safely and have not gotten paid for those days.

My wife and I are many times unable to get to our driveway without becoming stuck due to the infrequent & often inadequately plowed road. Many times I have gone to the length of snow blowing the street after my car has been stuck. My wife has missed work on occasion due to the plows not coming until the following day after a snow fall. Our friends in neighboring cities mention their satisfaction with plowing and their decision to move from St. Paul for better street maintenance in general. We hope there can be improvement without the added costs to residents. Perhaps the businesses that get all these incentives, can start to shoulder their fair share so it's not all on the residents.

I agree fully! I am part of the public who sees the problem fully in the current system. In fact these last few months have been nothing but a pain. Im.often stuck on my road until 2:30pm. Snow plows show anywhere from 1:00 to 5:00. I work second shift. I just recently could get my car out bc the roads hadn't been plowed for two snow falls so neighbors and I had to shovel the street in front of our houses. Also I only have a single car garage and own multiple vehicles for work. I could go on and on. Saint Paul's system makes no sense. Once I get to the suburbs you sure can tell a difference. Washington county for example.

Markets work if you let them. Even our trash disposal has declined because of the mandate Give us a choice st paul!

It needs to change so people can drive safe.
