The roads in Saint Paul are so dangerous! When is the city going to start having parking on one side of the street only? Working on the east side with all of the hills is a nightmare! One would think that areas around schools would be a priority--I have lost count of how many times I couldn 't make it up hills this winter and been late for work. It is pretty sad when the residents have to shovel streets and put down sand!

Don't plow alleys. Thats my vote.
Lets get our city streets done right first. Subcontract for services if you have to tackle the first day of snowfall as its happening. People need to get to work. Any/All areas where residents live on hills need to be done or they cant get up the road. Also, coordinate your plowing to be done early so trash and recycle trucks aren't impacted. This year both services couldn't pick up for over 3 weeks in a row do to snow. They are subcontracted thru the city so should have SLA's in place that they work thru to completion in a single week timeframe. Should never lead into the next week. They know the customers who they couldn't reach do to weather.
Way too much tax money wasted in St Paul. One summer I watched city employees (crew of 5) take 6 weeks to fo a gutter/drain replacement and the cement and curb around it. Thats 1200 labor hours and who knows their rate. And one was the lead and just gave orders and one was working and the others were standing against their shovels/tools.

“The most livable city in America”. Whomever thought that one up should win the “irony award”. If I had known how badly St. Paul maintains its streets in winter, I would never have moved here 5 years ago. Alleys are even worse, with no one doing their part to plow/shovel/blow out their own section, but that is a subject for a different day. When I read on the city’s website not long ago that the city of St. Paul only budgets for 4 snow emergencies per winter, I was flabbergasted. Since St. Paul WILL NOT plow residential streets without calling a snow emergency that means they have no intention of plowing more than 4 times per winter! What kind of obscene joke is this on its citizens?
There are plenty of things that St. Paul could do to improve winter street conditions. Here are some suggestions.
1. Ticket and TOW those who don’t move their vehicles. Since “everyone” knows that St. Paul is notoriously lax in ticketing the non-compliant on residential streets, people don’t bother to move their cars. On my street, typically 6-10 cars remain on the street when the plows do finally come through. I would think that the money the city could collect would more than offset the cost to hire someone to go through and ticket these vehicles. All of these vehicles left in the street means that long rows of snow remain in the driving lanes and then just end up as packed down ridges of snow and ice. The plows could do a much better job of getting snow off of the streets if the streets were actually clear of cars.
2. Instead of waiting days to get side streets plowed, try this. On the day that weather forecasts predict more than 3 inches of snow, have the city automatically require cars to park on the odds side of the street until the one side is plowed, then have the cars move to the opposite side of the street once the plows have gone through. The next day plow the odd side of the street. That way we wouldn’t have to wait days to get the snow removed and at least one side of

I have missed work twice this winter due to the street conditions. We in St. Paul get the crap taxed out of us yet get very little for it. Non-compliant cars need to be getting towed before the plows come through also, which I've never seen happen in nearly 10 years living in frog town.

We need a better system for our city, period. Our current system at its best is reactive and we need something more proactive in place. I would like to see our parking and snow removal plan updated to accommodate the heavier snow we have been receiving due to changing weather patterns. St. Paul has always been behind when it comes to snow removal. In 2019, it is downright embarrassing that we still cannot get this right. Please commit to taking a good hard look at this urgent safety concern and work with the community to find a solution that works for our city. Alley plowing should also be included in this, as expecting neighbors to coordinate this on their own is ridiculous and inequitable.

Next is to fix our roads the East side of St. Paul, two inches of overlay on top of hundred year old brick.
They take our tax money and waste is right in front of us. Fix the roads not patch.

I am very disappointed with the Saint Paul City swallowing that it takes three to four days after a snowfall to call our street and then they don't even do it while they go down the middle even though there are no cars in the street it's time for a change look to other cities at what they're doing take Stillwater for example they have a separate crew that after plows come through on the street that second crew comes out with Bobcats and cleans the sidewalks and clears people's driveways of the snow that the plow created this would be great for St Paul but for right now I would be just happy if they plowed my street within 24 hours

They seem to be doing a terrible job this year on our street. It's not even close to normal width and the plows come by so late that they are always covering sidewalk entryways with embankments of slop and ice. I can't afford to pay for snow removal twice because the city decided they want to plow 4 days after everyone has completed snow removal. Then the same people will come by and have the audacity to complain and fine you to fix the sloppy plowing mistakes.

I live on a Dead End street and know of allies that get plowed before my street. 1st Stupid Maryland experiment, 2nd Garbage/Recycling (u know what I mean) Now this. I didn't VOTE for this BS.
