Save the Sacred Heart Church
We, the undersigned, call upon the Most Reverend Archbishop Anthony Mancini to revisit and reevaluate the decision to close the Sacred Heart Site of the St. Marguerite Bourgeois Parish. Although we understand and support the purpose and scope of the Forward in Faith Policy we feel that the decision made has not taken into consideration a number of concerns which have flawed the process It did not take the composite of parishioners in consideration and that will have extreme consequences for all communities involved in the future. We request your presence in a public meeting to listen to the concerns of your people and allow members of the community to provide you with facts that will have an impact on the decision that appears to have been made in haste. The community of the former Sacred Heart Parish is deeply disturbed by the decision to close a growing Catholic Community. This decision has been the cause of many mixed emotions and feelings of hurt and distrustduring a time in the Churches history when we need unity and forgiveness. Sacred Heart Church is situated in one of Halifax’s fastest growing communities. According to statistics provided by the local councilor for the Halifax Regional Municipality, it is estimated that for the next 20-25 years we can expect 125-150 new housing units to be created each year resulting in net increase of approx. 300 people per year. There are many facts and circumstances to consider before destroying a vibrant all age inclusive faith community. It is in listening that we are truly able to understand each other.
