The sacking of a scientist at the University of Copenhagen threatens freedom of research

Academic freedom is essential and removing a professor from the university requires real and strong reasons (if they exist). I support this petition.

I am really confused about the reasons presented to fire a top scientist and I consider them, even if they are true, not substantial.

By this I protest the sacking of H. Thybo. As a Dane, living abroad, I often proudly explain how my home country differ from others in that in that leaders of state institutions do not abuse their power. Now I am not so sure any more.

I support this petition.

I know Prof. Thybo as a top scientist and an European geoscience leader.

This is clearly an unjustified over-reaction from the University authorities.

This is disgraceful. I have worked with Prof. Thybo for many years on ICDP matters and he is an honorable and leading scientist. Please reconsider your decision!

Hans Thybo is an internationally respected scientist and scholar. The grounds for dismissal, as elucidated in Nature and elsewhere, lack substance. I urge you to reconsider your decision.

This is absurd. Let's hope the university comes to their senses.

Hans Thybo is an internationally recognized and respected scientist who's rigor and ethics, both scientific and personal, are beyond reproach. His dismissal is an unwarranted assault on basic academic freedom.

The rationalle for the termination put forward by the administration, as cited in the Natute article, does not meet world standards for a university committed to the princiiples of free expression and fair and open process.

This does not pass the smell test.

With such precedent, nobody will feel safe!

Institutions like universities need people with high intellectual merit and do not need using excessive authority against them. Everybody can be once wrong but do not fire people for wrong reason.

Although generally I would not interfere in personal issues, in this case it seems clear that Hans Thybo was wronged by his university!
