I was nearly knocked off my bike and had to jump off it to avoid getting hit, better cycle networks would help avoid us getting hit.

Sir David Attenborough once said "If I can bicycle, I bicycle". I wonder what Sir David would make of cycling through the centre of Bristol? I really hope this petition helps to progress improvements to Bristol's cycle network and instills this cycling philosophy in all of us. :)

Cycling lanes are often poorly thought out, for example the new one between Bedminster and town which goes past St Mary Redcliffe Church, This has segregated pedestrians from cyclists, but they cut across each other and there are not enough Cycle signs so it is mainly used by pedestrians meaning inevitably I am back on the road despite there being a cycle lane. Also, there are just not enough cycle lanes.

Although Bristol has made some much-needed improvements for cyclists, I hope it has only just started. Having lived in Belgium and the Netherlands, cycling can be done by anyone and can be the greatest way for traffic relief, easy commuting, transport for children, etc. There are already many cyclists in Bristol and there can easily be many more, if cycling feels safe enough which it currently really doesn't. Some of the improvements badly needed are: - Make longer stretches of cycling lanes, preferably separate from the road. Erratic, chopped up bicycle/bus/parking lanes keeps cycling dangerous next to cars because cyclists have to pop in and out all the time. Allow space for a cycling lane between the pavement and the parked cars; place concrete bumps between the lane and the parking space. - Improve the state of the cycling lanes. Painting a cycling lane is inexpensive and easy for the council, but the worst parts of the road are the sides. When you have to dodge potholes, cars won't expect cyclists to come out of their lane, making a cycling lane effectively more dangerous than the situation before. - Better enforce the 20mph speed limit. Many drivers are very courteous, some are not. Bristol is an exciting forerunner as a cycle-friendly city in the UK but compared to Belgium or the Netherlands it has barely started, and it has so much potential. I would urge the elected council to take some lessons from Amsterdam and Copenhagen, get out there and see this city transform into a place where cycling is easy, safe and exciting. We will love living here even more.

I am sure more 'normal, rational' people will discover the joys of cycling when they don't feel they have to risk their life to cross town and navigate the crazy mega-junctions

I am committed to avoiding car/vehicle use wherever possible and I cycle far out of my way to cycle safely to destinations with my young daughter. Which party will support me in my endeavours?

I want a safe and pollution free city to live and cycle in. Who should get my vote?

Cycling is such a wonderful solution to so many of our traffic and health problems but it needs commitment to make things happen.

I often cycle through Bristol and, while things are much better than they were, there's still plenty of room for improvement.

Enforcement of the law regarding driving and the use of mobile telephones might go a long way to making cyclist feel safer , I don`t think a week does not pass without a vehicle being driven by some one using their phone coming close to knocking me off , this along with red light jumping vehicles, don`t believe me check out the light controlled crossing at Temple Gate Peugeot any morning.

This is especially important in central areas. My commute feels relatively safe until I reach the city centre.

As a regular commuter cyclist - improvements are needed

Having cycled in Bristol as a visitor I was surprised to find provision in this "Cycling City" to be somewhat piecemeal. The routes had some very poor quality items in them, throughout the central area of the city, and outside the centre it seemed to be pot luck whether there was any provision at all! Where there was a continuous path, it was suffering from capacity issues and needed widened, with pedestrians needing a separate footway to reduce conflict.

Having cycled to work in Bristol for the last 11 years (as well as extensively across Europe) I am still nervous in Bristol's traffic and would welcome more cycle lanes and particularly segregation from the traffic

Let's follow London, Amsterdam and Copenhagen's lead.

Please make safe cycle routes to Southmead hospital, so many people need this and cycling up Goucester road is horrible and dangerous,

Building more, and safer, cycle routes across the city, would make Bristol a lot more enjoyable for commuters using all types of transport.

More space needed between cyclinsts and cars, take a look at Copenhagen if you need to see how it's done...

I would like to cycle but there aren't enough cycle paths and lanes to make it safe at the moment
