Make Bristol more cycle friendly - sign the petition

Please give more cycle facilities to the people of Bristol

This is a no brainer. Our city is so polluted and we are supposed to be leading the way in the Green Campaign! Holland did it, so can we.

I used to cycle all the time for my shopping , but now walk as I don't feel safe on the road. The whole traffic system in Bristol has always been awful. Now as a pedestrian I have to contend with many cyclists who ride the pavements, obviously many feel unsafe on the road, and others just for speed. I used to live in Holland - so good to cycle there. There isn't the space on Bristol roads to create the same unfortunately.

But please don't do it at the expense of pedestrian safety. Transfer space over from roads, not pavements.

We need space for safe cycling

Segregated bicycle lanes are the key. Right of way to most vulnerable road users at pinching points

I've been cycling to work for the last 6years and although some infrastructure is brilliant (Bristol to bath cycle path, ring road cycle path, the festival Way, Ashton court and Leigh woods mountain bike trails, 20mph speed restrictions) there is still a long way to go to consider Bristol a serious cycling city. The amount of "cycle lanes" on roads which lead to no where apart from oncoming traffic, parked cars, pavements..., or white lines and bike logos painted on roads pretending to be a bike lane. These are a joke (Deutsch and Scandinavians would most likely laugh at us/it), aren't useful to anybody and are most of the time actually dangerous. I think Bristol is slowly moving in the right direction, but I do jink a more radical approach will be required to make a tangible difference to Bristol cyclists. Thanks for the efforts so far and let's keep going forward for a true cycling city!

Far from improving things for bikes the council has recently made them much worse by introducing bottlenecks and buildouts on its roads. This leaves no room for bikes. Before they did this there was an opportunity to put in bike lanes at the sides of the roads.

I'm too scared to cycle in the city - if it was safer, I would definitely cycle to work rather than using the car.

Cycling makes sense for all as a mode of transport and a way of keeping fit. Investing in cycling infrastructure is an investment in the future

We need Bristol to work closely with its neighbours in South Glos, Bath and North Somerset to come up with an area wide network of safe, connected cycle routes. Transport doesn't follow administrative boundaries so I would like to see the Council and Mayor commit to working with partners as well as improving things within the City boundaries.

We have more than enough spare land and road space to create safe cycling arteries through the city. It should be done. All it takes is the political will.

A safer, more practical environment for cycling and the introduction of daily-life use of bicycles in more families does not just come with improving infrastructure alone. In addition, children need to learn both at home and at school how to safely navigate the roads as a silly helmet alone will not achieve this. They will soon be better and safer at it than their parents and in addition, they will be more sensible road users on bicycles, motorbikes and cars in the future.

I live in S. Glos. but through cross-border facilities are needed throughout the Greater Bristol area.

Having recently visited Holland, I have seen how it can be - all traffic moving harmoniously and safely - no aggression and agro. Surely this is the way forward - improving the quality of life for all the inhabitants of our city. Please, please, please invest more into proper, joined up infrastructure.

I cycle to work everyday in Bristol but there are some parts which are so un-cycle friendly (Coldharbour rd) and inconvenience drivers when there are cycles on there - if only cars were not allowed to park on it and we had a real cycle lane it would be better for everyone. I also want my girlfriend to cycle to work (Horefield to Southville) but I am worries for her safety - it should be the BEST form of transport to take else she (and the other 400,000 people) won't do it! I dream of a city as cycle friendly as Amsterdam or Copenhagen - is it that difficult and are the benefits not so great it it is worth it???

Time to end the piecemeal state

all power to all work & campaigning that can be effective in ensuring that cycle transport has maximum support. what healthier way for people in Bristol to help themselves!

Cycle responsibly - ensure that it's only motorists who deserve censure, and maybe negative attitudes towards cyclists will change for the better.
