I love Bristol, and cycle everywhere as I see cycling as an essential part of my life for getting around and maintaining my health and happiness (not to mention that it's impossible to get around any other way as Bristol's public transport is so shocking). Recently however, I've had so many near misses on the bike that I've all but stopped doing it. Journeys ended in me shaking and upset having narrowly avoided a bus I am supposed to 'share' a lane with, or been shouted at by drivers or pedestrians, or cut off by some idiot in a fast car. I live in Redland and work in Bedminster, and all roads through the centre are dangerous. Do you choose narrow and busy Gloucester Rd and the Bear Pit, where people park in the bike lane and cut you up from behind, the dangerous road in front of the BRI where a member of the band Calico Jack was tragically killed over summer, or Park Street where you have to cross oncoming traffic to reach the small cycle lane at the bottom, and all of those routes horribly polluted and congested? Making a small cycle lane along the Harbourside is an improvement but not enough when it doesn't join up with the rest of the city! It has made me hugely upset. The city's complete inability to do anything about it and look after it's citizens, combined with the anger that motorists seem to have for cyclists, has recently even made me want to leave Bristol.

I am a cycle instructor working for the council. I cycle all over bristol delivering cycle training to children and adults. Many parts of Bristol have extremely good provision for cyclists BUT it is very disjointed and some areas lack the infrastructure or the will to make cycling more popular (it seems to me). I want to do anything i can to help make Bristol's cyleways more user-friendly.

Where I live - High Kingsdown, in BS2 - all roads into the centre are dangerous for cyclists. Something urgently needs to be done!

How can you enjoy a bike ride on the fresh air when there is so much stress about safety going on in your head, getting shouted at by pedestriants and getting squashed by cars in the process?
Peace.

This is the future! I look forward to the UK becoming a more developed country, following the footsteps of Norway, Denmark, etc, who are decades ahead of us!

Really keen that we don't lose momentum on making Bristol better for cyclists. There's so much still to do - and the benefits to the whole city are enormous.

We need much safer cycle lanes and routes . I've almost been killed 11 times on Bristol roads and it needs sorting.

Bristol thinks that it has done a lot to promote cycling. In some respects it has but not in relation to making it easier or even possible for cyclists to use public transport (eg. trains) as part of their daily commute. Why are there less carriages in the evening compared to the morning trains? Where is the sense in that?

Cycling is key for Bristol. If you remove that then the city is dead.

There is no case for saying that this does NOT make sense. I'm car driver, beer and cyclist. Cycling is our future.

Bristol has fallen way behind on cycling. All new paths in recent years have been very poor quality.

More proper cycle lanes + respect for 20mph = a better Bristol for all! Well overdue.
