I know how important a JROTC program can be for someone aspiring of a military career post high school. I attended a wonderful JROTC program and it set me head and shoulders above my peers when I joined the military. This young man seems very serious about his goal and it should be the goal of the education system to assist him in accomplishing that goal.

As the AFROTC Commandant of Cadets at NC State, I can say that passionate young people such as Ryan are exactly what ROTC detachments are looking for. Althought JROTC experience is not pre-requisite for college ROTC acceptance, our cadets with such experience entered our program light years ahead of their peers in the knowledge, confidence, and leadership that are required to excel and earn a commission.

It's rare to see such devotion & drive in our young people and when they have this quality they should be allowed every possible opportunity to develop and grow in whatever career they choose.
