Traffic (including cyclists) go far too fast and the entrance to the Tesco garage is really dangerous.

I think Tesco should take some responsibility for ensuring drivers entering their forecourt are more aware of the fact that a school is right next door. Does anyone know if the Council have got any further with proposed plans to turn this stretch of road into a Boulevard which would mean it is changed into one lane of traffic in each direction rather than two? Not sure why the road needs to go from one lane from Tooting Bec into two lanes for a short stretch and then back into one lane just before Balham station. I'm all for making it one lane all the way!

Live across the road and daughter goes to RHS there are no road signs that the school is there. People use the island to cross either for school or teacups and Argos as both crossings are way too far and a long red lite interval. Cars do drive way too fast.

There are 4 schools (St Anselm's, Bertrum House, Evelyn Day and Rutherford House) along Balham High Road between Tooting Bec and Rutherford House and it is very dangerous trying to cross this stretch of road as an adult much less with children on the school run! My children have witnessed 3 horrible car accidents walking to/from school during the last year! The timing on the traffic light on Balham high Road at Trinity Crescent/ Streathbourne road for pedestrians to cross must also be increased as we have to RUN (not walk) across it everyday and the light always changes before we have crossed safely. It is very dangerous crossing with small children!

I agree and something needs to be done about cyclists jumping red lights on that stretch of road before someone is killed.

It's made more dangerous by the speed cars pull in to the petrol station as well.

Yes! RH also Eveline Day Ravenstone, TrinitySM - the whole stretch should be 20mph (could be school drop off times only).
Or - could make it 20 mph from Tooting Bec to Waitrose?
And Boris bikes introduced?

This is a great initiative as this is a horribly dangerous stretch of road.

You take your life into your hands when crossing over the A24 even in a car - two lanes which are too fast - and so many bikes - it's a potential death trap.

Yes, a few zebra crossings are essential at this junction, where my nieces cross to get to/from Rutherford House school.

On a number of occasions I have seen cars racing each other along this stretch of the High Road and it feels dangerous even walking along the pavement with small children. Please make some changes!

It is only a matter of time before a child gets hurt or even worse. Please put in place the appropriate measures to avoid tragedy.

A Balham resident for 20 years. This piece of road is now so dangerous. Something needs to be done before more people die or are injured

Horrible stretch of road, please do add extra road signs/crossing person before we have a fatality. Thanks.

Yes to some traffic calming on the High Road please. Positioned right next to the entrance and exit to the Tesco petrol station is something that needs to be addressed by the school too. Ironically the near misses I've experienced have been caused by RHS parents entering the car park at speed (presumably late?) or just plain parking in the forecourt and obstructing the walkway. This needs to be addressed by the school. There are plenty of spaces in the surrounding streets to park and dropoff/pickup your children.

I'm very concerned there is little/no protection for children or any local residents on this four lane highway. Something needs to be done

It is imperative that Rutherford House has urgent protection for the children from traffic on this stretch of road and the petrol station next door , Wandsworth Council need to deal with this urgently.
