If the race is already paid for, transfers should be allowed for free. Refunds should be offered when there are circumstances beyond our control. Life events cannot be predicted and we should not be further penalized when they occur.

I hit a deer on my bike a 40 mph three weeks before Ironman. Broke my foot. Too bad, no transfer, no refund! Out $700!

I so agree with this! Sometimes life happens and u can't make a race! I was signed up for the Chicago marathon in 2012. My mom died sept 1 of that year and I was in no way able to make it, was in no mental state to run a 5k let alone a marathon out of state. I lost $150. This policy seriously needs to change. That would've been money put to good use after her passing, instead it was just lost.

Paying for medical treatment after an injury is bad enough, don't add insult by refusing refunds.

month 10 of a serious injury; dealing with over $400 of nontrans/nondeferable fall race fees. This would be so great!

I see no reason why we can't transfer or get a refund. So I'm glad someone is finally standing up for us. To help get this policy changed. The cost to get into races are no longer $20. The price to get into races now are ridiculous. A no refund or exchange policy really hurts when you have to sigh up so far in advance. Just to get into a race anymore.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I've had bibs that I signed up for and then realized I couldn't do. I always feel bad that someone else could have had it.

Love this. With sign up beginning so far out from race day it would be nice to be able to at the least transfer to another runner if something unexpected comes up.

I absolutely love this idea. Races have gotten so expensive and it would be nice to not have my hard earned money go to waste due to injury or any other unforeseen event that would not allow me to run a race.

I have been effected by this policy when I dislocated my knee. Even with ER records and doctors recommendation they still would not allow me to transfer or defer a year.

I think being able to transfer your bib should be allowed.

With computer technology bib switch should be easy for a small fee.

Love this! I was lucky that the one half I was injured for allowed me to defer a year (they also allowed transfers). I did everything possible to recover in time, but decided the consequences of running too quickly were not worth it. Thank you!

I'm totally down for the bib transfer option! I agree that allowing refunds could get messy as too many people might use lack of training as an excuse to cancel, which in turn could have negative effects for the organizations. Allowing for valid transfers doesn't seem unreasonable within a certain timeframe, however.
