I could not get the Crim to let me postpone a year when my mother died and I had to be in FL to bury her. love the race but they were NOT nice.

when I pay, I own a spot in that race. I should be able to transfer to whomever wants so long as they meet race criteria for age etc

I've been fortunate enough to pick up races with bib transfers at the last minute. How nice would it be to register for races far in advance knowing i could get my money back if i am unable to run!

I understand the no refund policy as most races have that in place and it sucks if you can't participate. I have drove before sickly to pick up a packet as I could not participate. I have signed up for events like Color Run which if you pay a premium in the event that you can not participate. If you are allowed to do something like this it might allow someone who wanted to participate a chance to do so and I'm 100% for that.

Tons of other national level races already use this or other platforms to allow LEGAL bib transfers. Army Ten Miler and Marine Corps Marathon, just to name a few. With rising entry fees and the requirement to register over 6 months in advance for some races, this is a reasonable solution. Charge a small handling fee - I think Army Ten Miler charges the person receiving the bib a $30 fee. This should more than cover any additional handling that race directors must plan for. In today's digital age in particular there seems no reason that this should not be adopted for all races!

I lost money on three races last year after breaking my ankle. A refund would have helped as a couldn't run and was off work for six weeks!

It would be better to have this option available up to bib pick up day. I broke my toe a week before my 13k; race I had trained for many months. Unfortunately Rock N Roll 1/2 marathon had that option, but it had to be purchased at the same time race was signed up for which I had paid a year prior to racing. How would I have known that on bib pick up day I was hobbling along with a shoe boot due to a broken toe?

People are going to sell and transfer their bibs regardless of whether or not it is against the rules, this would create a safer race for everyone - people wouldn't be motivated to run races while injured and RDs would have the correct medical information for all runners
