RUNNERS! Demand Accurate Race Results and Better Transfer Policies in the Running Industry

I think this should be an obvious option for all who find themselves disappointed with not being able to compete in a race they signed up for. It allows in some cases for someone else to compete in an event on behalf of the injured party.

I support bibswitch! Allow runners the same consumer rights (the right to sell what was theirs and they paid for in the first place) with organizers being informed.

I understand, somewhat, if a race won't permit cancellations/refunds. However, I firmly believe that all races should permit lawful bib transfers to other runners. This prevents fraud and running under another runner's name, but permits an injured runner or runners with personal reasons for not running to give their bib to someone else as opposed to literally just donating the money to the race. It also fosters goodwill in the running community. It's not an excuse to say it can't be done. Broad Street Run is one of the largest races in the country and their bib transfer program works just fine. It's disheartening that certain races won't permit this simple act of goodwill and would rather just take a runner's money with no option except a possible deferral (which isn't always possible for the runner).

Prohibiting bib transfer for pregnancy is a discriminatory policy that needs to stop.

Stuck with an injury AND a bib I can't use, defer (injury after deferral date), sell, or DONATE. Double whammy.

I have a friend in Florida who is not able to run the NYC marathon. NYC marathon race director, you are encouraging black market in swapping right now allowing illegal switch. Please reconsider your policy.

I have a stress fracture of my pelvis and after 3 months of no running, I will not be cleared to run until mid-September, which is definitely not enough time to safely train for the Chicago Marathon in October. I was aware of the no deferral/no bib transfer policy when I registered for this race, but I would welcome a change in that policy.

Running injuries happen!

This would definitely help with early registration sales knowing that if situations change, somebody can use your registration.

Unless there are specific performance standards for entry to the race, it makes no sense to deny bib transfers between athletes. I know many athletes that tend to avoid races with strict no deferral/no transfer policies, or others that ignore the no transfer policies & sell/give their bib away anyway. Neither situation is desirable for the competitors or race directors.

This sounds like a great idea to help people keep running races. It sucks when you get hurt and end up out hundreds of dollars!
