Technology issues are frequent. When children are only being educated virtually and the technology fails, they are not being given an education at all. Starting the year virtual means that the children will not have any relationship with their teachers. Students with IEPs that already needed help are being left further behind. Children with working parents aren't going to get the support they need to do their school work either because they are home alone or their parents are focused on work to pay the bills. Children whose families can't afford private tutors and pods fall behind. Inequities grow.
Virtual learning fails so many students. I've heard time and again during district meetings that students shouldn't enroll in the cyber charter schools because they are poor performing schools. They are poor performing in large part because they are virtual. If cyber schools that solely focus on virtual education fail at it, there is no reason to think that our district which has almost no experience with it will succeed.
As other schools throughout the state open either fully or blended our students will be left behind. The ones that will be left the furthest behind are those that are already at high risk due to learning differences, socioeconomic circumstances, and difficult home lives.

My son has an IEP and I feel going all virtual will not be good for him physically and emotionally.
