I am very disappointed with the decision to go virtual. Like many people, my employment did not stop when the quarantine started. I’ve been expected to work full time every day.. and my work performance and attendance has declined from trying to balance taking care of my children & my full time job. I cannot continue to work full time if I’m expected to now educate my children at home. It’s extremely unfair to ask parent to make the decision between keeping their job or reducing hours / quitting to play teacher in a district we play higher mortgages to be in specifically for the school district.
If I have to work and can also go shop at a mall, build a bear, eat at a restaurant and get my hair and nails done at a salon then children should be able to go to school.

I am an essential healthcare administrator and technician. Penncrest/Sprinton Lake. All 3 of my kids are special education. Upper Providence, Media, Pa.

With all due respect to the “guardrails” mentioned in the August 5 email, I have a real lack of confidence the school district AND families will be able to adequately, sufficiently and safely go back to a blended model once a fully virtual model has been put in place.
I think it is terribly unrealistic that going fully virtual will even satisfy the needs of teachers and families seeking a corona mitigated environment. Many families will have children attending child care, where students will be supervised doing school work online, socially distanced and wearing masks (the same precautions put in place previously for the blended model). The difference is that teachers will stay home and parents will now be expected to pay taxes AND childcare expenses OR pay taxes and LOSE THEIR INCOME to stay home with their children. Is this in line with FAPE? In addition, the misinformation given at last night’s Board meeting was negligent. Child care ratios and capacities have NOT been mandated limited. They are the same as before COVID. The idea that a child care center has “larger spaces” and is thereby safer than school is an egregious falsehood.
It is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to expect a tax base to provide in home (or pay for out of home) instruction for an indefinite amount of time- with the possibility of then needing to rearrange completely when the school board decides.
And for reference before anyone gets really upset with me and doesn’t believe that I care about all parties- I’m a college educated certified educator that left my administrator position in June to stay home with my children. It was a family decision that weighed heavily on us but I was considered an essential worker who did not have the option to work from home.
Corona has affected all of us in our community in countless ways.

Edgmont Township. I think the hardest part was the feeling of hope taken away. Had the plan been virtual from the start, it might have been easier to take. In planning for all the “what ifs”, we are losing sight of “what is”. The concerns I have are related to the educational equity gap as tutors and micro schools are popping up...further widening the gap. And women will suffer as they are being forced into deciding between careers they love and their children’s education. And of course, the mental health of our children- although the symptoms cannot be seen and measured as easily as Covid, the effects of this pandemic will be felt for years to come . I understand this is a challenging situation for everyone and appreciate the effort of the school district to do what’s best for the community... this is not a job I envy. I also applaud the creator of this petition and the courage it must have taken to be so honest and vulnerable... a true testament of the love we have for our children and urgency to get them back in school. Please reconsider the hybrid model again and give us all the hope we need to get through this tough time. Thank you!
