I support the option of the blended model. We have to give it a chance. No one is going to casually put their children at risk. I understand the spring caught everyone unprepared and we all did the best we could, but there was no learning. I believe if we begin the school year fully virtual that we'll never go back in-person.

kids don't learn in online school! Teachers don't teach! Teachers take over a week to respond to questions! Spring was a horrible experience! Rose tree needs to do better! Rose tree needs to be better! Teachers are getting their full pay to post articles- thats not teaching! If teachers don't want to come back, hire new, young motivated ones. They are standing in front of the class- more than 6 feet with a mask- let the kids that want to go to school go to school! They are getting depressed!!

Middletown Twp, Glenwood Elementary. Like most of the parents commenting here, I noticed a drastic change in my daughter once school went online in the spring. She was a happy kid who loved school. Once online, she had daily meltdowns. Processing things on a screen was much more difficult (she was 6 and in 1st grade). She needed help working on holding a pencil and developing good handwriting. Writing on a trackpad was extremely frustrating for her. We had to ban the phrases “not now. Not yet. I can’t do it.” It was incredibly traumatizing for her and for me. Because of her high stress level, she ended up not imprinting most of the material she was trying to learn. Her day lacked structure because my husband is a physical therapist who was braving scary conditions to continue working & I was also working as a pediatric neurology NP, doing video visits from home. We also have a younger daughter who was 3 at the time. They were supervised in that I was physically in the house, but that’s about it. That’s also the level of education she had. I have done my best to present the fully virtual plan to her in a positive manner. She says she won’t do the work. Quite frankly, with our backs pinned up against a wall with an educational plan that absolutely will not meet her needs, I probably will not force her to do the school work. This time around, I will be out of the house for work. I already had to reduce to 4 days a week because it was so difficult to manage online schooling and the kids plus work. Child care for this year will now take up the majority of my take home pay.
As a pediatric neurology NP, I saw the many struggles that my patients with headache disorders had with such heavy screen time. There are only so many suggestions I can make, although we do have one handout & are working on more material. As someone who also sees many patients with neurodevelopmental disabilities, a few did ok with online school but many did not. If children are to be prioritized,

None of this virtual nonsense. Sweden is "Positive Proof" and has been the gold standard in dealing with the Covid issues.
