There are certainly better ways to implement a stricter alcohol policy. RPI must realize the financial implications (to the Greek Organizations) of not allowing the Organizations to recruit freshman. This is very disheartening.

Banning rush and recruiting is a dumb idea that will cripple the chapters at RPI. It will do nothing to address the drug, alcohol and sexual assault issues.

Greek life was critical to my success at RPI and beyond. Any donations from me will be to my fraternity and not the school.

The Greek system at RPI is strong far a reason. There’s no reason to throw out the whole system and ostracize alumni over a few bad actors.

Forfeiting rush activities would be an unfortunate turn of events. Having a "family" on campus with a built in support system helped me with many facets of my undergrad experience. I can't imagine wanting to support a school with donations in the future if the students are not supported by a Greek system.

It's hard to express in works how my experiences at RPI and as a PI Beta Phi member shaped how much of who I am today. Having a home away from home in Pi Phi gave me a place of respite when school work, personal life, or family problems had me struggling. My experiences were one of growth and confidence. I am disappointed in RPI in taking such a harsh stance on the entire greek community. The mistakes of one group of people should not penalize everyone. Greek life is embedded in the RPI history and it must be cherished for its importance.

I don't agree with the approach of not allowing any rush - this would be detrimental to the long term prospects of the Greek system. As a 20+ yr alumni, I strongly value my greek experience and feel that contributed to my RPI experience.

Were it not for Theta Xi, I would have transferred from RPI. I still have a solid group of brothers that I see regularly, 14 years after graduating, and I try to make it back for Founders Day every year.

Greek life had a stronger influence on my business success than any single course at RPI. Not including Alumni or Students in the discussion is reprehensible.

Just banning behavior does little to change it. If RPI wants to affect change on Greek Life it needs to engage in meaningful and inclusive discussion with those groups.

If it wasn’t for the kindness of the Greek life community at RPI I would have transferred out of RPI sophomore year, I know other schools are trying to get rid of Greek life but 1/3 of rpi was Greek when I was there and that is going to make 1/3 of the student population either hate or not help the administration in any way because of a punishment to many for the actions of a few.

It is unconscionable that this would be done without any input from the Greek community. The task force should include, at the very least, Alumni who can create a flow of communication between the needs/mission of Greek organizations and the desire of the University to hold us all to a high standard.

These proposed changes designed to cripple Greek life are unacceptable. I will not only disregard any attempts from the school to correct donations, but will actively discourage prospective students from attending this university, should this move forward. Great way for the university to sever their connection with a huge portion of their alumni and donor base.

Depriving these organizations of their lifeblood, rush, could be a deathblow to Greek life at RPI. My experience with DTD provided valuable life skills that can't be taught in a classroom. The bonds formed with my brothers were what kept me at RPI, have kept me coming back for alumni weekend, and are the reason why I have been willing to donate. Eliminating Greek life by attrition would be doing a great disservice to the students, and will alienate a large percentage of your alumni. Eliminating alcohol at Greek houses will just force students (many of whom are of legal drinking age) to DRIVE downtown to local bars, which seems like a terrible idea.
