RPI Allow Rush and Recruitment!

Greek life was a huge part of my academic and social growth during my time at RPI. Greek life is often what keep Alumni returning to RPI and engaged in what is going on at the school. Remove Greek life and I think there will be unintended consequences for the institute.

As a student and member Greek life at RPI I am disappointed in the decision of the administration to strip all organizations of rush. This is an obvious move to end all Greek life, one of RPI's major attractions, and will leave a lasting scar against many of the fraternities and sororities that are on campus.

As an Alpha Phi and RPI alum, I have found tremendous value post graduation of being in Greek Life. This sisterhood provided many professional connections, valuable leadership experience, and life long friendships. Greek life promotes individuality, leadership, risk management, and philanthropy. This was one of the main organizations that attracted me to RPI.

Depriving incoming young people with valuable opportunity as well as costing the organizations money; organizations that have supported the school for decades (some for over a century). This is a very ill advised and (seemingly) ill informed move that reflects horribly on the school.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't have made it through RPI if I hadn't gone Greek. Academically financially, and emotionally I know I would not have made it if I were unaffiliated. In no uncertain terms, this movement to cancel Greek life (and let's call a spade a spade, that is clearly the intent of this move by the administration,) will GAURUNTEE that I will never donate one more red cent to RPI. I will tell all my friends, family, professional contacts and neighbors not to donate. I will tell anyone within ear shot never to attend this school for so much as a tour of campus. Greek life is one of the things that made RPI a home for me, and one of the reasons I used to consider the institute exemplary; losing it would be a tremendous blow to the students, and I believe eventually to RPI itself.

It is absurd that the administration is effectively punishing the entire Greek population of RPI for the actions of a small segment

The Greek experience profoundly impacted my RPI experience. As a Greek, I was provided a "family" away from home, a support system, academic help, mentoring relationships, opportunities for community service, a work ethic, and a continued network that has helped me in my career. It also gave me an opportunity to gain leadership skills and friends that have lasted for 20+ years. In short, it shaped the individual I am today. To begin to question the integrity or usefulness of the Greek community at RPI is to potentially deny current and future RPI students these experiences. RPI '00 & member of Alpha Phi

So the first move of the Greek Life Task Force is to suspend the upcoming Fall Rush? That reveals the true intentions of this task force. My daughter is a third generation RPI student and joining AGD was instrumental in her successful Freshman year. I am a proud TKE brother and my success at RPI was directly related to my participation in Greek Life. My uncle a brother at Phi Mu Delta. Just these three organizations represent thousands of RPI Alumni. All told, there are tens of thousands of RPI graduates that have participated in Greek Life. We will defend it.

Joining a fraternity was the best decision I ever made at RPI. The friendships I made on a personal and professional level changed my life. I would not be the man I am today without the people I met and the experiences I had thanks to my fraternity. Alpha Chi Rho '16

I cannot imagine attending RPI without fraternities. The friendships I made there remain strong today, 40 years later. Fix the problems but don't destroy the fraternity system.

I loved my experience with AGD at RPI. Given the skewed male/female ratio, it was a relief and comfort to have female friends on campus and place to belong that felt safe. Greek Life was a positive and enriching part of my life in college.

I’m done donating to RPI.

Without Greek Life, I would not be the person I am today. Greek Life greatly enhanced my experience at RPI and helped me "find my place". My sisters continue to be my support system. They welcomed me into their organization as a home away from home while I was in school and I cannot even begin to imagine my life without my sorority. Please reconsider other ways to go about handling these kinds of issues. This is not the right way and Greek Life will die along with RPI's reputation.

My annual donations are on hold until this ban is repealed. If nothing is done, I will NEVER again contribute financial donations to this institution. Greek life represents such a significant portion of the RPI community that you could not possibly have thought this to be a wise financial decision. Hopefully current students will not suffer as your funding is stripped as a result of this ludicrous attack on RPI greek life.
