Prince William County is a vibrant, diverse ethnic and socio-economic community that can provide its residents with opportunities not available in other surrounding counties. With a new rowing boathouse PWC can expand its venue by providing additional prospects for Scholastic and adults to pursue athletics. The current boathouse at Lake Ridge Park Marina has exceeded its original design capacity since being built in 1986 to support three High Schools. The boathouse occupancy has now grown to seven High Schools with the last expansion in 2004. A new boathouse will allow additional opportunities to grow the sport of rowing and prepare athletes for competitive selection to National Youth Rowing teams and US Olympic rowing team, including Para-Olympics. We have an opportunity to provide opportunities to support “Athletes Without Limits” in our community. These include: empowering athletes of all ages with intellectual or developmental disabilities to thrive, providing youth in adverse socio-economic situations the opportunities they need to flourish, and building camaraderie and strength among our nation’s military Veterans with disabilities. Northern Virginia has one of the largest concentrations of military personnel both active, and retired. These programs require additional space to support special needs in equipment, training, etc. to support veterans with disabilities. Throughout the United States, the sport of rowing has provided opportunities to Scholastic students that may not be able or qualified to participate in other sports programs such as Football, Soccer, Track and Field, Cross Country, etc., because of various limitations. Rowing helps to overcome these limitations that otherwise cannot be realized through “Athletes Without Limits” and adaptive rowing programs. The Occoquan Reservoir is considered to be one of the best bodies of water for rowing on the East Coast. Prince William County should embrace this unique opportunity and expand the rowing op

Three of my four children rowed out of this boathouse while they were in High School at Gar-Field. They loved every minute. Two of the three have gone on to make rowing their life's work. To my knowledge there has always been a problem having enough room for boats at the Oxford. They need more room.

I am in support to the expansion of the boat house. More schools need the same opportunity.

I got the chance to be part of Battlefield's team. They didn't have room for us in 2020 - they don't have room for new teams now. I encourage our county supervisors to go look and see what the problem is with the current boathouse and resolve to fix it.

I'm a rower in my fourth year. The boathouse is overcrowded and cramped. They do not have room for our team's equipment.

County representatives need to go down to the boathouse during spring season to see how overcrowded it is. New high schools deserve to have teams too.

A larger boathouse is long overdue. Current programs are overflowing into trailers in the parking lot. There isn't any room for additional programs. PW County has a county facility that is knows isn't big enough to support the county residents but is doing nothing about it. WHY?
