It will protect officers in the long run as well as civilians if the scanners remain public

People deserve the right to know what's go on in their town. The freedom of information act entitles people to know how much crime is going on for their own protection since the police are spread so thin people need to protect themselves and information would help them do so.

Please keep the scanner information public, as it should be and has been for so long now. This is beneficial to the common people and has no need to be taken away from us. I believe this is our right as citizens of this city to know what is going on around our streets. To take this away is an attack on our safety. For example, If there is a robber announced on the scanner being in a certain area, and you are in that area, this is a time when knowing what is going on is necessary.

I had very high hopes for this Newcomer to Rockford Police Chief. One of his major jobs here was to rebuild the trust between Citizens of Rockford and the Police after the going on 12 year problem after problem and failure after failure, controversy after controversy. He has failed us with this scanner blackout. Cutting Citizens and the Media out from information. He has only been in office around 2 months and this is one of the first things he is doing? Blacking out the public from free flowing information about what is going on in Rockford! Let's work hard to reverse this decision and stop this right in its tracks.

We need the Rockford police scanner in order to be informed about the things happening in our city. If you take that away we have no idea if perhaps there's a person in our neighborhood breaking into houses to keep an eye out for them or if someone was involved in a hit and run to keep an eye out for them. We the citizens cannot assist the police if you take away the only form of communication between us and the police.
