The biggest reason the RPD is doing this is to keep the crime off the news. The people who live here have the right to know what's going on and where it happens. This is endangering US more than it will ever put the police in danger. I remember when I lived on the east side of Rockford and I was in my driveway ready to go to work when I hear on the radio that someone was killed down the road from me and police were looking for the shooter. I DESERVED to know this. This looks like a great opportunity for cops to be grimy. Didnt we put hundreds of new cops on the force in the last year? How can we trust them already? Just because they wear a badge?

I understand that the criminals my listen to the audio, but I think the mass public has a much larger group of listeners, and I want to know, like, I'm sure, everyone else does, what is happening in Our Neighborhoods and City..

People have the right to know what's going on. Find a better way to deal with the crime instead of trying to hide whats going on. Nobody is buying your explanation.....just an fyi.

We use the information on the scanner to avoid areas of traffic accidents, house fires, & criminal activity. To no longer have this information available would be a risk to public safety.
