I don't buy the excuse I'm reading for why its being encrypted. I keep seeing the RPD talking about how crime is at a low point but the scanners tell otherwise. I'm sure they just don't want us to know the facts. Rather than hiding the problems Ur would be nice if they actually fixed them instead.

Police Chief wants to hide wrong-doing by police and racist remarks by police by encrypting. I live in Rockford on the west side - the best side and listening to Scanner is important for truth and honesty. Don't encrypt, sirs.

I use this scanner service to find out important information when police are searching my block, or after drive buys or after the 4 hit and runs on my parked vehicles, or to see if they are coming after having things stolen from my garage. Or after my house was hit by a car. Or why they have the streets code end off . Or during the "Get Money" gang home invasion issues. To see if stuff was happening in my area.
It keeps my family safer with timely knowledge and I don't have to disturb a peace officer to gain the information.

I really do not think that the criminals check this website while actively committing a crime. This site informs the public more than the criminal.

this is absolutely wrong. Our tax dollars are paying for that equipment and the police work for the people. They have no right whatsoever to go dark on the people who pay for their salaries, pensions, and equipment.

I would say, maybe 80% of the reports on Rockford Scanner never makes the news.The public needs to be better informed, as to whats going on around them. Encrypting the transmissions, only puts people at risk.
