How many scanner buffs have been listening to their car scanners and called in to 911 to relay info to an ongoing emergency? I bet allot! If the police have nothing to hide they need to leave the airwaves open to public. Like crooks are smart enough to figure out how to use and then listen to a scanner!! This is 2017 now and it’s still sad to not listen to the scanners like I use too!

All government communications should go out in the clear in the name of the first amendment and transparency.

I would like to now what's going on in my neighborhood just the other day a person was robbed and stabed half block away had no idea then there was a inturder with gun breaking in houses

The police dept.always asked for publics help when they knew crime was happening.If scanner was on we would be alert for those areas.

I think crime has since increased since the incription

Do not encrypt the scanner. Being able to get the info out to the public is the best way to stop all the violence that is going on in this town

I really appreciate you Rockford Scanner. You let the public know what is really going on. Without you, we'd never know. I never knew Rockford had so much crime until you let us know. It's out there now and Rockford police has to address it. They've been embarrassed by Rockfords place on America's most violent cities ratings.

A lot of good people listen to the scanner and keep watch over their communities - my grandparents would listen to the scanner on their porch when I was young - taking away community involvement is not the right step toward stopping crime and bringing our community together.

We need oversight and part of that oversight is through public monitoring.

How long will the people of Rockford endure the endless "experiments" to avoid the real problems of Rockford. The real problem in Rockford, I believe, is the cocaine and heroin that enters Winnebago County, with "protection" by the political "authorities" who profit handsomely by their endless frauds?
