Rochester ISIS

(Independent School Investigatory Study) Committee

The Rochester ISIS Committee is a group of citizens from Rochester and surrounding towns whose purpose is to explore the option of creating a Rochester independent school to replace the public school. We believe that this option will improve the educational services to the children of the district, provide for the long term sustainability of a community school, lower costs and enhance local control. We also feel that a more vibrant curriculum would increase enrolment and have the economic benefit of attracting more families to the area.

We are calling into question the current governance of our school under the Windsor Northwest Supervisory Union and if it can provide the best education for our children at a cost that is sustainable and acceptable to the community.

This initiative requires a broad base of community support and will ultimately require a vote. The input, thoughts and considerations of all citizens are crucial to both the future of education for the children and the economic picture of the community.

On June 26th 2012, members of our committee met with the Vermont Department of Education to seek legal and financial council. We then submitted a written request to the Rochester School Board to adopt the following motion.

Request For Motion

"For the Rochester School Board to explore an option that would close the Rochester Public School in order to offer our children school choice and then establish an independent school in Rochester".

This petition is asking the Rochester School Board to adopt this motion.
