As a rugby league fan I feel that our sport is being ruined by a poor standard of officiating that seems to be getting lower, and ultimately leading to the sport losing fans and image. Firstly, this is not a moan about referees from my club's perspective, this is me expressing a concern about referees from a rugby league fan's perspective. I think that each and every spectator has come away from a game at some point and mentioned a decision, a forward pass that was missed, inconsistent penalties, decisions changing games etc. Recently, two tries have been awarded in games using video technology that were not tries. Forward passes have crept into the game for years, and we have seen tries that go to the screen that cannot be ruled out for forward passes, yet in other sports this is carried out perfectly. In my opinion we should be coming away talking about the great players that we have in our league such as Sam Tomkins, Ryan Hall and Josh Charnley - players who are constantly linked with moves to the NRL because the sport has a much higher profile - and not be talking about officiating. Whilst I understand that it is not an easy job, I do feel something needs to happen to make a change for the better. Hopefully this petition will get enough signatures to show the Rugby Football League that there is enough concern from a lot of fans in the SL to make something happen. Some example areas that can be resolved: * Technology used at all games - something that was trialed and used and then disappeared. * Forward passes to be looked at on the video screen - technology is advanced enough to be able to have moveable lines on a screen to check where a ball was passed and caught. * Two referees - a system tried and tested in the NRL * Changes to video ref system - asking the video ref to prove the decision wrong, rather than to make it. Having multiple video refs/consultants * More responsibility on linesmen * Using the sin bin correctly, and not putting players on report as a cop out Please sign this petition if you have even only once witness/felt that the standard of officiating has ruined your experience of watching a game of rugby league, involving your club or not.
