Regulating the possession animals is one thing, but making them outright illegal to own is another. People should be allowed to keep chickens on their private property. Saying otherwise goes against our inherited rights of the Laws of England and that of land freeholders.

I strongly believe Edmonton should allow backyard chickens, many other cities already do!

Allowing people to raise hens in there backyard would definately be a asset
It would help reduce the amount of waste going into our land fills chickens can eat large amounts of table wastes
It would help to controle insects
It will provide chemical and hormone free eggs to many people

I support allowing a reasonable number of laying hens per household in the City of Edmonton to support local healthy food.

Being allowed to raise a limited number of chickens in the backyard would be beneficial to so many families and individuals! It will help reconnect the next generation with where their food comes from, instill respect and responsibility towards the earth, plants and animals and will provide a healthy source of protein.

We already have a large vegetable garden at our home and this would be great for our family and help us to teach our children about where our food comes from.

Laying hens would be fantastic for the city. It could be another Way We Green. And I have heard that one if the issues arising might be abandoned chickens that quit laying, and the Edmonton Humane Society/Animal control doesn't have the resources to deal with them, but there is a solution. The edmonton Valley Zoo currently purchases chickens to feed to their carnivores. If the Humane Society feels overwhelmed or inundated, maybe the chickens could be donated to the animals. It would save the city the expense of housing/adopting out the old birds, as well as the cost of purchasing birds for the zoo.

please allow back yard hens. I plant a huge garden every year, compost all year and buy local organic eggs/produce as much as possible. Having back yard hens would add mt reduction of carbon foot print. It only makes sense. Lets join the other world class cities! Thanks!

I moved to Edmonton in December and coming from an organic farming background where we knew where our food came from, would love to have a few laying hens to compliment my garden plans.
I would like to help this cause in anyway I can!
