Laurie is not only a phenomenal professor, but also a wonderful mentor, friend, and advocate for her students and youth served by The Oxygen Project. Anyone who gets to learn from and work with Laurie is extremely lucky.

I had Laurie Brockhaus for my Dismantling Oppression SWRK class. It was a high-tension class that discussed very sensitive topics making it a difficult class to teach. Mrs. Brockhaus was able to teach this so eloquently and handle the conflicts responsibly making sure each student felt safe and heard. I learned so much and with her teaching I was able to understand the content clearly and engage in many different ways. She is a fantastic teacher; her intelligence and emotional maturity was inspiring to me. Losing her in this program would be detrimental. There are not a lot of SWRK professors due to it being a smaller major and clearly valued in this program by fellow professors and students. Not only is she a teacher but a mentor and safe person for many people. I hope SLU can reconsider keeping her place here.

Laurie is an excellent teacher who consistently goes above and beyond to offer not just a quality education but additional emotional support, resources, and to help make connections for students in and out of the classroom. She is always there for her students and community and it would be a serious mistake on the university's part and the program will suffer if she is let go.
Additionally I think it should be noted that she was a great source of comfort for us all when our fellow social work student Angel Newman passed, helping many of us make sense of our grief and honoring her memory.

She embodies kindness, grace, and a passion and commitment for social justice that is inspiring to all who meet her. I truly believe the School of Social Work and Saint Louis University are suffering a deep loss without her expertise and guidance as a professor, mentor, and valued faculty member.

Professor Brockhaus is the kindest and most welcoming SLU professor. She is always willing to listen to our problems, help us find resources, and ensures that her classroom is a calm and welcoming environment for all students. She deserves to keep her job, student success will decline without her here! She has made a huge impact on students in her short time at SLU, and I can only imagine how successful students will be with her continued impact. Students deserve a voice in this decision! PLEASE reconsider this decision!

Professor Brockhaus is one of the kindest and most intelligent and encouraging professors I've had in my program thus far. She cares deeply about her students and our success which shows in her practice of mindfulness during class, use of supportive and inclusive language, and providing genuine feedback to all her students. She plays a huge part in facilitating a warm and supportive space for new MSW students to gain a fundemental understanding of clinical practice, and losing her would be detrimental to the future social workers headed this way, as well as to the longevity of this entire program.
