RIDEAU RAMS In 1958 Rideau high school opened to cope with rapidly rising attendance due to the baby boom. It was planned out to be built with an auditorium, double gym (with bleachers) and a cafeteria, which was objected by the Ottawa Property association and the construction was delayed for some time. Several million dollars was spent on the school in the early 1990's for renovation, leaving us with this well planned out school today. Rideau offers academic, applied and essential level courses. It is a home to many students coming from different countries around the world guiding them to a success in life. Rideau high school is the most multicultural school due to the ESL programs, by accepting these students Rideau lets every student around the world know they can always join the Rideau Rams and receive a great education. To many students Rideau plays a role as their home, teachers are always willing to stay with students after school hours, teaching them and coaching them. It may have a small population compared to many other schools, but it still provides the students the education they need to get into university, college and any apprenticeship programs. The board probably thinks they are doing the right thing by shutting Rideau down, but it is a big mistake. In a student's point of view, shutting down Rideau will tear some students apart by getting rid of precious memories that a graduate or even new students has experienced. Spending 4 years in a school and having someone decide to shut it down is almost like growing up with all your family members and someone taking you away from them. Rideau is not one of the city's most maligned schools, Rideau is the same as all the other schools and in some cases it is better. Students work together like a big family and we will keep working together to keep our school open. You don't realize how much u love something until someone decides to try and take it away from you.
