This plan must not pass as written! We need affordable housing, transportation and diversity in our neighborhoods.

Please don’t enact this plan. The city we love and chose to live in and raise our family in will become the place we no longer live in. I don’t want to move to Edina or Richfield, but will do so and my house will become a 4plex. That will begin the demise of my block of Girard. If I don’t do it, one if my neighbors will and the dominos will fall. We elected you to represent us. Please do so. Thank you.

I agree with this petition 100%. Please consider Minneapolis residents who have continued to live in Minneapolis when others have fled. This plan threatens our established neighborhoods. Do not bulldoze our neighborhoods.

The up zoning prescribed in this plan serves as a greenlight To local, national, and international speculators. These speculative interests, who don’t care anything for the Communities or People who make up the city of Minneapolis, will only drive housing costs up with their a high-priced density—destabilizing neighborhoods and displacing people whose incomes will not be increasing enough to meet the new price points.
The city of Minneapolis is creating this situation with this plan. The city of Minneapolis needs to stop catering to developers and work with neighborhoods to create a city that works for everyone.

As the plan stands now, I am motivated to sell my house before my property value declines and move to Edina where I don't have to deal with this threat to my investment. I am not alone in that opinion. Please give this plan an overhaul and listen to the taxpayers that have largely been left out of the discussion to date.

Please rework the 2040 plan find some middle ground that addresses the concerns so elegantly expressed in this open letter. One size doesn’t fit all.

This captures much of the flavor of my concerns about the plan. Lofty goals, preemptive narrow actions, missing fundamental infrastructure, absent a concept of evolution, flawed by a lack of understanding of the character that makes our city unique .

We live in a beautiful city and need to be more thoughtful about this process. Too much is at stake. Density at the hands of big developers doesn't take into consideration the needs of your constituents, and limits the integration of an already segregated city. Where is the affordable housing? Inaccessible rentals are not the answer. I urge you to walk around Minneapolis and appreciate the historic buildings and unique neighborhoods. This is Minneapolis, once gone, we can't get it back. Growth and density can happen without destroying our city, we just need more time and more constructive dialogue.

The plan is rife with error both in the details and in scope. If carried out it will damage the city greatly.

Communities happen from the ground up. School and rec volunteers, businesses that spring up to meet local needs, churches and NGOs that know who need help. City planners and politicians have short lifespans-- about the same as a cheap apartment building--and need to be humble in the face of long standing emergent order. Read your Jane Jacobs. Dont' destroy the middle neighborhoods that make the city great.

Minneapolis has great neighborhoods;
let's not bulldoze them. There are corridors in the city that naturally accommodate more dense housing--why the need to rezone the entire city?
Enough density. Please rework this plan.
