Please do NOT approve the 2040 plan !! This plan is based on out of date data. It will not solve the issue of affordable housing, it will just help out of town developers whose ONKY interest in Minneapolis is money. NOT developing community. NOT improving quality of life of Minneapolitans only for their bottom line.

when we owned a home in SW Minneapolis, I was active in plans for neighborhood park development and proud of our neighborhood & city. our strong neighborhoods are important to Minneapolis--the diversity which they support is a vital part of who we are we cannot ignore our unique, active neighborhood structure and remain a vital city. please reconsider Minneapolis 2040. go back to talking with neighborhood organizations.

When the plan is rewritten, I hope to see a need statement or why such a policy and strategies are needed. Also, a timeline. And the desired outcome.

I completely agree with this petition. The 2040 Plan must be revised with more input from all who live in Minneapolis.

Around every corner seems to be be some new cookie cutter box developement with luxury condos and apartments...this plan is irresponsible to your constituents. Community is already a dwindling concept in a big city. Single homes and neighborhoods should not be targets to every damn developer and contractor that wants to throw a matchstick, poorly crafted, building of the day up. Not too mention, are you trying to push out low income families entirely? I'm quite tired of seeing them holding signs on every on and off ramp and have you been downtown lately? It's uncomfortable to walk down the sidewalks with out being pestered buva drug dealer or homeless person. Let's make getting these people into affordable housing and into employment or treatment a priority.
Not only that, it is a pipe dream everyone is going to take a bus or ride a bike. Especially through the winter months. It's apparent that roads are disposable with all of the construction happening at once in this city. It's a fricking nightmare. Really? These construction jobs had to be done all at once? As if getting to work isn't stressful enough.
This plan needs to be scrapped and the gung ho, tax and permit hungry city council members need to listen to their neighbors and constituents. In ten to 20 years there's going to be no where to park. Don't turn Minneapolis into Chicago. We live in Minneapolis to still have some space in a big city. We're smarter than than this plan. We can do better than this plan. It's narrow minded and sighted. Let's focus on building community rather than boring, cheap boxy buildings that will overshadow homes, tear up neighborhoods, and lessen our quality of life in Minneapolis. Let's open our ears and minds to all who make up this city.

Cannot support 2040. So goofy for a lot of reasons. FourPlex in all neighborhoods? Nitwits developed and pushing it is all I can say.

Cities are like human beings. They each have their own unique characteristics, their own history, character, personality, and unique charm. The mayor, so he tells us, fell in love with the breathtaking beauty and irresistible allure of our city when he came here to run a Twin Cities Marathon.
In fact, he fell so deeply in love with Minneapolis that he moved here from his home in the East. Once here, he fully committed himself to our city -- by running for mayor. He won. And now, like so many young, naïve and inexperienced newlyweds, he wants to change his beloved -- our city -- and change her drastically.
With his 2040 plan, it appears the mayor is acting out his personal version of Pygmalion with our fair city … with the intention of essentially razing what he must believe to be a hick town on the prairie, and reconstructing a slick, densed-up metropolis fitting his vision of a sophisticated, cutting-edge city of the future.
So is this 2040 Plan evidence of a love story gone terribly awry? I don’t think so. It’s time our Twin Cities news outlets WAKE UP and GET CRACKING. Start investigating what’s really going on here. It is time to FOLLOW THE MONEY. Something is rotten in the State of Minnesota. Start by following your nose to the 2040 plan for the City of Minneapolis.

We have a wonderful quality of life in our South Mpls neighborhood. We have a nice mix of single family homes, duplexes and apartments. If you build bigger buildings we will loose the ability to maintain green spaces. That would ruin our quality of life. Why change such a good thing?

I fully support this petition, which well articulates how deeply flawed this plan is. It has to be stopped and completely reworked to preserve and enhance our neighborhoods, many of which are the envy of the nation for the great living conditions they provide. The critique is absolutely on target: increased density all over our city would be a terrible disaster. Scrap this plan!

Traffic congestion concerns
Building a fourplex on an existing city lot could bring 8 addition cars to our congested city streets. Focus on public transportation before density goals are addressed.

Speaking as a retired person, the city's aggressive property tax valuations and now this -- allowing 4 plexes on city blocks -- seem to show that Mpls. has no problem with forcing out the seniors. Are seniors not a demographic that the City values? This is a far-reaching, possibly even drastic plan, being proposed with little or no public debate or input. Put on the brakes! Develop some public consensus before going ahead with any significant master plan such as this.
