I agree that the school needs to do fundraisers. However, I think that participation should be rewarded by maybe T-Shirts, Gift Cards or something of that nature, NOT to exclude ANY child from a "Fun Day" because of their parents unwillingness to participate in the selling of items. What does all this money go to if we still have to bring all the supplies at the beginning of the school year, pay for field trips, etc, etc, etc. This should be for all WES AND WMS. How come what our kids sell, don't go directly for their trips???

Nobody should treat or looked at a child/children differently because of there income kids should not have to suffer because there parents couldnt buy something this is something for all of the kids no just some

Kristen Williams Wood has some EXCELLENT ideas on other ways to promote raising money for our schools. I truly believe that with parent and school working hand in hand this can be changed by next school year!

We are open to suggestions for other options. We have to find a way to fund things that the district office does not provide money for.

I agree completely with this petition. There are many reasons why it's unfair to make each and every student participate in fundraising activities. Direct sales is not the best approach for our children. Families with more than one child in the school have to purchase more items than smaller families. Plus, extended family cannot always afford to purchase something from every child that is participating in the fundraiser. Every time you turn around there is a fundraiser for something at school, after school activities and/or sports. It's expensive. Personally, I would much rather donate money than purchase something.

Woodruff and surrounding areas are only so big, all the kids are basically trying to sell to the same people. Penalizing children for not hustling a customer takes away the value added of reaching out in the community.

I have never agreed with this. Our family just doesn't care for the over-priced fundraising items and my kids are always penalized because of it.

I havent received my order i paid for in 1999. I think thats a crime itself! To make a child miss fun day bc they dont partipate in a fund raiser thay sells high priced items easily boughy anywhere even online at a reasonable rate? Ridiculous! Where is the lesson for the less fortunate? You cant have fun bc your parents have no money to give or cant afford your outrageous prices? Lucky if we get what we pay for even if we do order? Its a shameful act and district 4 should be ashamed of this actuon 100% for shaming our babies! You will never get a dime from me and my babies will notbe treated bad due to greed!

Grandparents are already on fixed incomes. Where's the extra money supposed to come from?? Stuff isn't worth what you pay.

School should be fun and fair for all kids. In some cases the school day is the only chance at "normal and fun" kids have. Come on Woodruff....don't teach discrimination!

So they are falsely advertising an incentive to sell more stuff. A lot of these parents spent money (they probably don't have) just so their child(ren) could participate in a fun day that they could have participated in regardless. That makes this whole thing even more messed up.

The school in question does numerous other fundraisers throughout the year that don't have a rewards system, as it should be. Other schools in our area have fun runs where money is pledged per lap, "do a good deed" incentives where people pay you for doing good within your community (picking up trash at a park, helping an elderly person with weeding their flower beds, etc). I'm unsure of what school you are referring to, but the one I'm speaking of does leave children in the classroom while others participate. This has been confirmed with numerous teachers and aides. There shouldn't be any incentive to sell, because it should be optional. A system that singles out children in a poor community at such a young age, should've never been anyone's answer to raising money.

This is where the "No child left behind" should be taking place. Primary school age children especially should be in a positive environment as much as possible and not made to sit "fun day" out for any reason especially when it is out of their control.

Stop turning kids into hustlers for school profit! The ones who can't sell feel like failures and in some schools are actually punished by not being able to attend an event. It's also dangerous because some kids will go out door to door. Find some other way to raise funds. This isn't it!
