When it comes to DPS it's always something negative people want to always speak on. I'm a coach and i know how it is to care for your players and treat them like your own kids. Taking his job just to bring in someone who is probably doing it for extra income is not smart. For once give our kids in DPS a chance like you all do for the suburban school systems.

Their needs to be a just process behind not bringing him back or at least give him a chance to speak and defend himself. a disciplinary action is understandable but a loss of job is not ok. This needs to be a lesson to Mr. Powell as well as the athletes. In my opinion, firing him is not the correct lesson to teach. If the school itself was not going to fire him, the board should not interfere. The board is voted on by the people and they people are clearly not agreeing with the decision.

I hate to see so many people bash Baker like this, but knowing both parties, and having been at that game, I have to believe the Powells version of the story. I also don't understand why you wait this long to issue discipline, it's the kids who will suffer, they will be in pads and hitting in a couple weeks. Does the Board expect them to learn a new system within that time? Does the Board not understand the relationship aspect of coaching? You They could have rendered this decision in November or December, this is ridiculous and shameful and the Board in its current state is an embarrassment. Dee Powell was strung along for the last 8 months, I'm sure he has been spending his own money on the kids taking them to camps and college visits, showing our kids it's more to life than just Dayton. Only to be fired by clueless and absent board members. Shame on DPS.

When it's Said and done, the KIDS will ultimately be affected more than anyone in this situation... The Board needs to keep the students best interest in mind! Re-vote and let coach get BACK TO BUSINESS!
