Anyone on Temporary visas shall be given the option to return and self-quarantine
On Sunday, February 2nd, 2020, the New Zealand government issued a travel ban on any foreign nationals travelling through China. While the present health crisis due to the current spread of coronavirus has been recognized, the impacts on international students from or travelling through China has been ignored. This unforeseeable travel ban has put International students into an extremely vulnerable position; they are suffering from financial losses, and all the arise uncertainties are causing severe mental stresses to these young adults, and the worst is - they don’t know when their suffering will end!
International students, especially students from China, have been put at an immense disadvantage. Despite the crisis being out of their control, International students and their families are burdened with financial losses. They are still obligated to proceed rental and various service payments they cannot access, as well as been charged their exorbitant tuition fees (which is three times more than domestic students) while lecture recordings are all they can rely on. Frequently rescheduling airfare tickets also raised unnecessary expenses to their families.
Furthermore, as the travel ban rises load of uncertainties, International students are more vulnerable than ever. The fear of failing courses and potential graduation delays are causing severe mental stresses to many International students. Moreover, the heart-breaking news on discrimination faced by all Asian people around the world is disappointing the International students and everyone in China.
New Zealand has always been the second home for all international students. It is everyone’s best endeavors to keep New Zealand clean and away from virus spreading. However, the international student should not be the parties to pay the fiddler. While having limited health check on returning passengers travelling through /from China in airport custom, restricting students from entering the country is fallacious. New Zealand Chinese Students’ Association (NZCSA) are filing this petition to request for a review on the travel ban, allowing anyone on Temporary visas (Student Visa and Work Visa) to return and self-quarantine.
While all the people in China are fighting to control the virus from spreading, the least thing you can do will be to sign this petition to strive for a chance to get your friends to come back home!

New Zealand is a love and peace country. I love NZ as well as my home country China. Please let healthy students enter NZ. We promise we’ll self insulted 14 days to make sure we are healthy. PLEASE
Work visa about to expire and I need to pay my rental also living cost and debts. Please let us return to nz or at least like Australia, that would be great if we could stay other county for 14days and entry into New Zealand.
Hi, I’m a year 11 student who studying at Onslow high school in Wellington,I’m really sad that the Chinese international students who still in China can’t go back to school, We'll miss a lot of classes and exams.
I wish the NZ government could learn the Singapore method. That is let student visa holders can still go back NZ. We could do self-isolation. Studying online is not a good option. We pay a lot of tuition fee not for online courses.
It’s unfair to the international students. Science stage 3 paper only available in the semester 1. And we have Labs which is important. If we cannot go back to NZ, which means I need to spend one more year at university
All I want to is going to the uni Im supposed to go to and peacefully study there :(

I'm already paying rent and it's not cheap and the landlord won't give me any rent relief. The ban has affected not only my studies but also my life. Hopefully the ban will be lifted soon.
