Review and Revise the AISD Dress Code

As a parent of former AISD students, I am glad we moved before my daughter was in middle school in AISD. What my friends' daughters go through is asinine. Let girls wear what they want and quit trying to police their bodies.

Part of what needs to be learned in school is how to not let superficial things like clothes and hair distract one from learning the stuff the teacher is presenting.

Review and revise the school dress code to make it more fair and equal.

I am a former AISD teacher who strongly disagrees with this dress code.

Stop shaming girls and interrupting their education for these stupid, sexist dress code “violations.”

My child's middle school uses that term for girls clothes only -banning "distracting" clothing. Objectifies girls and perpetuates the "boys will be boys" attitude.

Let's focus on making our schools a place of learning rather than a place where we police their outfits, suppress their self-expression, and destroy their self-esteem.

I agree that the AISD dress code needs to be updated to be clearer and more fairly balanced, so as to remove the biases against minorities and young women.

As a former teacher, I whole-heartedly agree with this statement. Ideas of gender-specific clothing are old and need to be revised. Let children dress comfortably and then they can think about learning.

I support an end to body shaming and girl focused dress codes.

The current dress code is too vague. It is sexist and racist. It needs to be reviewed and changed.

I'm a retired teacher and know how much valuable classroom time is taken up by trying to enforce dress codes.

Telling girls what to wear encourages RAPE CULTURE. Girls should wear whatever makes them comfortable.

Stop the discrimination against girls!

The current dress code for AISD is degrading and biased towards young women and needs to be extensively revised.

Teach boys/men to pay attention to the lesson not what clothing someone chooses to wear. Stop penalizing those doing nothing wrong and penalize the ones causing trouble.

Please review the dress code. The current language is not clear, and it discriminates against girls. As a mother of a teenager daughter in AISD, this is a discussion we have weekly. Thank you.

My own education was adversely impacted when I was taken out of class when administrators arbitrarily decided that my attire was distracting. This gave me the message that I was responsible for boys’ and men’s discomfort with their own sexual thoughts, and that this was more important than my education. Boys and men need to take responsibility for themselves and accept that girls have a right not only to be present in school, but to have an inclusive, learning-oriented environment.

In ten years time the changes you're resisting will made and given no thought.
