I remember struggling with our dress code in school. I still have an unhealthy relationship with clothes and my body.

I find the AISD dress code to be ridiculously sexist and offensive. At an age when girls and boys are hyper aware of their changing bodies, the schools have no business drawing more attention to girls' bodies.

The last time I checked the most distracting thing in schools are "vaping bathrooms" the rampant drug problems, sexting, bullying which begins in Kindergarten and most importantly the lack of attention to parent and students mental health or attention to them at all which leads to school violence. My daughter, 3rd grade has been harassed by boys for 2 years. And mean girls start this behavior in early grades. The dress code should not be where the administration spends time policing our kids and school clothes shopping is hard enough.

My children attended Austin ISD from K-12 and my daughters were targeted by dress code inspections (which turned out to be non-violations), and photoshopping of year book pictures, for which adults took no responsibility.

Instead of placing the burden on students' wardrobe, students should be taught to self regulate and manage their behavior toward others.
