The iconic diamond-wedged tower of the new WTC site has been scrapped.

On June 9, 2015, Bjarke Ingels Group unveiled a new rendering for Two World Trade Center — a design calling for cube-like sections stacked up against each other and forming an illusion that looked like giant garden steps, leaning towards One World Trade Center — ousting Lord Norman Foster as the architect of Tower 2, and scrapping his rendition of the very iconic and more acclaimed diamond-wedged design.

In the original plan, the building's sloping roof consisted of four diamonds inclined toward the memorial which would have provided a visual marker around the skyline of just where the original towers were. The tower was designed to resemble a diamond, with cross bracing intersects and indentations breaking up the sides. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said the following about 200 Greenwich Street's wedged rooftop: "Designed by Lord Norman Foster, the tower incorporates WTC master planner Daniel Libeskind's 'wedge of light' concept, and will cast no shadow on the memorial park on September 11."

  • Signing this petition will vote against the construction of the new building and its new design, thus reviving the old and more iconic plan of rebirth in Mahattan's skyline.

I'm also disappointed with the new design. The new building lacks review comparison from the old building's design, and since then there are no negative news yet that alarms the public if the change. The public still thinks that Foster's Tower 2 would be built, not this one. Even if I admire the concept, the new design just doesn't have that class that the old one had: The iconic diamond-sloped roof, a visual beacon of rebirth. It was supposed to be the marker to let everyone know what had happened, and what had become of its majestic rebirth.
