Tax-Paying RPS Parent (Farmingville)
We are against the SSL initiative that was approved by the BoE, as it was NOT supported by a majority of residents, teachers and students. The current costs that have been expended and the potential overall costs for this initiative is enough of a reason to oppose it - we are taking money that could be well spent on curriculum and better health initiatives for our students. We implore the BoE to stop this initiative.

I/we parented our boys (student, athlete, NHS, philanthropic, church member, part time employee) to good health habits. I believe later start times are not the solution to any health problems, good parenting, moderation, and power of example = good actions, are the solution.

I have sent numerous emails to the BOE stating my reasons for disagreeing with the change in school times. Most importantly is the fact that it does not warrant the cost.

I’m opposed to changing the school start times in the 2019-2020 school year due to coat. This can be revisited when our District is more financially solvent.

The cheaper and easier way to help the students would be to have them go to bed an hour earlier. We need to parent-up instead of expecting the school district to do our job for us.

This is a bad move on a number of levels. Studies have shown that turning the lights low an hour before bed can manipulate circadian rhythms. This is a costly disruption to the busy lives of high school students and its implementation will drive financial resources away from much needed areas. In a world with unlimited dollars and school starting later but getting out at the same time, sure. But neither of those scenarios is plausible. Please reverse this asinine decision that the community, RHS students, and teachers have spoken against and restore our faith in our elected officials representing their constituents despite their personal opinions on the subject.
