I find the new housing rules unfair to students who have been at UT for longer and wish to remain on campus.

My daughter is a marine science major and will be a senior next year. She has a very heavy load with multiple labs. To not be able to get housing on campus next year would be a detriment to her academics. She is constantly studying or in labs and the extra time spent traveling to campus and trying to find parking etc. would be a waste of her precious time for study. These students and their parents have given you 3 years of dedication and money, don't we deserve something in return?

Thank goodness this petition was started. As a sophomore, I was really worried because I can't afford to live off campus and I don't have a car to commute. I would never want to live in the hotel because it is so inconvenient.

This new housing thing is completely ridiculous. I spend all my time on campus and have been here since I was a freshman. You're going to tell me that for my senior year, freshman will get a senior privilege. Not right!

Although I myself do not live on campus I do believe that upperclassman that have already altered their lives, left home, and have become comfortable on campus should be allowed to live on campus and have seniority rights. If an upperclassman wants to live on campus it's one of two things... 1) they can't afford living off campus or family doesn't agree
2) they genuinely love college and they are the ones freshman talk to about coming to UT.
Upperclassman should be a priority when it comes to on campus living.
A) they have spend the most time and money at the school
B) they must love it enough to want to live there and they will be the ones recruiting upcoming classmates
C) they are almost done... School gets significantly harder in your last two years cut them a break and don't make their housing an issue

So you want freshman to get priority so that they can get more involved and lower the transfer rate.. But what about the seniors who are now presidents and Vice Presidents of their organizations, and have dedicated themselves to their organizations and school for four years now? I love UT and I'm so happy I came here (and stayed), but you need to think before you make a decision like this.

Upperclassmen are taking more advanced classes so they don't have time to travel from off campus. The new system also removes the incentive to complete more credit hours since that no longer has any bearing on the selection process.

Unless they plan to build an entire parking garage for commuters, this isn't going to work. It's bad enough now.

This change to the housing is completely unfair to continuing students, whom give more money to the university than freshmen who drop after 1 semester.

I get that the university wants Freshman to feel involved but at the same time, over 50% of students are from out-of-state and do not have cars to drive to and from campus. It makes sense that as you get older, the housing gets better- not the opposite.

I'm graduating this fall but this new rule is not fair for the juniors who have waited to live in these nice new dorms UT has made. Freshmen are at the bottom of the barrel and they have to work their way up to the top. They shouldn't be treated like royals their first year, they haven't shown any loyalty to UT and to put your upperclassmen to the bottom is pretty disgraceful. Stop accepting more students than you can accept or build more dorms before accepting more student. This is just wrong what you're doing.

This was one of the selling points for me as a parent. I was excited that my daughter could spend all 4 years in campus because we live 1000miles from Tampa and were concerned about her safety. This new policy suck!!!!
