Reverse the Housing Rule

Crazy! Upper class man should have the right to rooms while a student. It's a bit ridiculous to think freshman are in more need of housing.

I came to UT for the small school atmosphere and convenience. Getting kicked off campus and having no parking spaces is not a part of that "small school experience" that I was looking for.

One of the most frustrating issues about this announcement is the feeling that rising juniors are getting cheated out of the best possible housing selection of their time here. I agree that underclassmen generally benefit more than upperclassman from living on campus, but this approach seems to be abrupt and reactive. I'd be interested to know what kind of student feedback they got for this plan. If rising seniors are unwillingly forced off campus for their last year it could leave them with a bad taste in their mouth about UT as they go out into the world. If possible, a grandfather rule should be put into place, deferring this new rule for a few years. New applicants will be informed of the policy and know what to expect from on campus housing. Current juniors picked UT with the expectation that they would get increasingly more favorable housing choices each year. Expectations can be changed for new applicants, but not for current students.

Ridiculous. Just shows that the University cares more about money than their students.

I think that the university's ambitions have clouded their judgement on this matter.

I wouldn't suggest being rude but instead voicing your concern along with the concern of the student body. A good suggestion would be making this idea a grandfather clause and having it take action once we graduate; since if we knew this coming in a lot of us would not have chosen Tampa. This policy will only further increase the already very high transfer rate. For students already struggling to make ends meet who cannot afford to live off campus it is essentially forcing them to leave the university if they cannot live in on campus housing.

This is completely ridiculous

Not fair for freshmen to have priority. Upperclassmen deserve the right to have first choice.

I am a parent of a student. The current system of rewarding housing choice based on accumulated credit is excellent. You have spent millions building better options for upper classmen. You've taken their tuition and you should reward their longevity. Especially given the transfer rate at your university.

Upperclassman should have first picks. It is not fair for incoming freshman to have priority housing. Its simple, we should be rewarded with better rooms if we choose to stay here longer. It will give the freshman something to look forward to.

Please, change this. As you all know, freshman are not completely qualify to be on dorms (at least they control themselves in a Hotel). Also, they are people who can't afford to live off campus cause they are not from USA. Think about it.

Those who have been faithful and stayed on campus should not be forced off. Do not chose profit over loyalty or you will lose alumni support.

For years the housing situation has proven to work just fine as is. Though I will be graduating and this will not affect me, I don't believe it fair that the more money an individual has invested in the school, the less priority they have. The concept seems pretty backwards to me. Also, as a youth, the excitement of growing up is moving up in the world and being allowed more freedom/ responsibility and nicer things. It has always been exciting to move up, knowing you can move from small rooms like Austin, to large rooms with a kitchen like Straz. Upperclass men would also like to live with people they have made relationships with, which will be compromised by Freshman who are yet to form relationships and can at this point make friends with whomever they live with.

Who's the idiot who came up with this idea! Perhaps UT should accept less students so that they can accommodate their students. Total greed!

I don't even go to UT and this is just dumb. At almost every single university I've heard of, seniors get first priority for everything. Does loyalty and their money mean nothing? This is just stupid...

If you can't accommodate housing for everyone then the school should stop increasing the amount of freshmen that are accepted every year. It is quite ridiculous that this even needs a petition.

Is this a joke? My daughter will be a senior next year. We live incredibly far away and do not have the monitary means to afford off campus housing. If she ends up living in the Hotel, why is she being punished for being loyal to the school. Why is her possibility of living in a single being taken away? This is completely unfair and makes absolute no sense. If this rule stays and follows through, I have no problem with my daughter transfering. Is not like she would be able to go to your school anyway. I absolutely hate how much UT is only thinking about money and nothing else. They obviously dont want students staying at their school.
