Reverse the Housing Rule

I'm even a freshman and I'm signing this because this is not fair to any of the upper class men at all

It's unfair that freshman get to choose housing first. My sister lived at the Howard Johnson and had no issues. Seniors have worked hard for 3 years and deserve to have first pick for housing.

Honestly this school is a scam and just wants money. We (juniors, seniors) have no parking, and now we are going to have no housing, what's next? Are you going to tell upper classmen they can't have meal plans anymore? "Oh we have to save the food for the freshman so they can properly gain the freshman 15" so over this school.

I have not read any of the comments yet, so I'm sorry if any of this is a repeat. There are many flawed aspects of this decision, but I'd like to highlight a few major ones. Let's start off with the economical approach. If upper-classman are denied their right to live on campus, they will be forced to move off campus (obviously). This will create a need to purchase houses,condos, and apartments in the surrounding area. The sudden increase of demand will cause the pricing of homes within close proximity to sky rocket. Now from a personal approach. I love living on campus and was planning on living here all four of my undergraduate years. I am sure that I do not stand alone on this concept, therfore a large amount of transfer students (which will add on to be already abnormally high transfer rate) will certainly look to go to a college that will accommodate them. And finally, what I find to be the biggest flaw (Correct me if I'm wrong about this one) is that the student body wasn't asked. This is just wrong. I hope that the faculty here takes this petition seriously, for it can, and WILL effect the decisions of many on whether they wish to remain here until graduation.

I am a parent recruiter for UT in the Los Angeles area. I was informed through my training that this current incoming class was not going to have housing in their senior year, and that I should inform them of this if asked. Thus the 2015/16 freshman class was informed of this new policy. I agree, grandfather in the loyal ones that are there, and go with what you set out to do with the current freshman class. Why should the families of current sophomores & juniors have to purchase and furnish a living space for only one year? That is not fair. After doing some research, on housing and the cost of furnishing it, it will in no way be affordable for our family to do this. Also, our son has been looking forward to living in the new apartments on campus since they started building them his freshman year (maintaining both his grades and units) so that he would be able to qualify in his senior year. Again, I fully agree that a GRANDFATHER CLAUSE, needs to be put into place and they need to follow what they set out to do with this current freshman class, who were informed of the new housing policy prior to making their decisions.

I think it should be that seniors get first priority. I'm sorry that the school is accepting so many freshmen that they can't house everyone, but that isn't the seniors fault. Freshmen should have the lesser housing options so in their last years here they can have a great expierience. Especially considering that seniors are more involved on campus so living off campus would make scheduling all of their clubs and classes would be that much more difficult. Seniors should always have SENORITY.

I'm a freshman now, but it's not right to kick out the seniors and give the newbies the nice places

my daughter will be a senior next year. She has been actively involved in supporting and promoting UT. She is also very involved in Greek Life, holding many different leadership positions. She has looked forward to the improved choices for housing during her senior year since she accepted her offer of attendance. We can not afford off campus housing and there are no Greek housing options available on campus. I believe you seriously rethink this decision.

increasing the transfer rate of upperclassmen to keep the freshmen is ridiculous !

Make more housing if you don't think you can fit everyone. Or only accept as many people as you can fit. Don't push students out they rely on housing, most of the students at ut come from out of state and deserve to feel welcomed and deserve to feel like they can rely on their school for housing.

Why show any respect to the people that already put in most of their tuition money already? It's too late to transfer so you're free to treat them like crap, right? Gotta make more money off of the incoming freshmen; how else will the plants be watered without their money?

I am an upperclassman and I cannot afford to live off campus. This new rule is no Bueno.

I'm a parent and I think the school can solve the situation in a better way.

This is unjust

This is a poorly conceived idea. My daughter is a junior. We have paid tuition for three years. My daughter played by the rules. She lived in less desirable housing as a freshman and sophomore and earned the right to select the housing of her choice her junior year. To give priority to new students over those students that have paid their dues is totally inappropriate. Only in academia could someone put forth such an poorly thought out idea that punishes loyal customers. Such persons would be unemployable in an intelligent world.

This depletes any chance of having strong alumni connections. Without the current students, this school would be nothing.
