Absolutely despicable of UT to have done this to the upperclassmen when they have been paying the exorbitant tuition all these years.

My son had to squeeze in a triple with a double attached as a freshman. 5 dudes with 1 bathroom and we pay $5k/semester. There should be some loyalty to students(and parents) who have paid their dues!!!!!!

I am the parent of a rising senior at UT. Living off-campus in a safe area of downtown Tampa requires that the student has his/her own transportation. Not all rising seniors have their own transportation and public transportation is not always an option. I think this housing change is a very bad idea. The rising seniors have worked hard to get where they are and it would be a shame if they are unable to complete their education at UT because of lack of on-campus housing.

Being a far away out of state I want to know my TU student has every opportunity including being safe and secure to concentrate on studies, not finding a place to live for 8 months.

I'm graduating this year and I still CANNOT believe my university would treat people that have devoted the past one, two, or three years of their life with such disrespect. Never mind the amount of money they have invested. I am appalled and outraged!!!!!

A private university should be able to offer student housing for all four years if they choose and preference of dorm by grade.

How great that UT is growing, however I am strongly against this housing change. Students love the UT campus and environment. This would penalize upperclassmen hurt the great name UT has gained over the years. It should be manageable for you to not accept students who cannot be housed on campus, especially when it is clearly important to many families that their children live on campus. First things first, create the additional housing then expand student base.

As a parent of a junior, we are not alone in having sent a great deal of money to UT! We had expected our daughter to live on campus all four years with her housing facilities improving each year. That was a big selling point. For her to be forced to rent an apartment and buy furniture for her last two semesters in Tampa is unacceptable. Seniors should be given housing priority!

I'm a parent of a sophomore. I sent my daughter to UT because of the size of the school as well as her ability to be able to live on campus all 4 years. She is an athlete that practices early in the AM and is involved in many activities which requires her to be on campus. She does not have access to a car so living off campus is NOT an option for her. I'm a single mother with 2 kids and I support my children 100% on a low salary. I can't afford off campus housing. Safety off campus is also a huge issue. The school is not located in the best area and I do not want my daughter taking public transportation early and late. She has had several night classes and taking public transportation by herself late at night is not a safe alternative. I will have no choice but to have her transfer to another school next year. I realize that you are trying to increase your retention and success statistics for freshman but you are also evaluated on completion statistics. Many of your students will have to transfer so you will start to have a lower completion rate for your upper Classmen. When picking the school we committed early as we knew that she would have a better chance of being in campus housing her freshmen year. For students that make their decision late they should not be given priority over those that make an early decision. Parents and students are well aware that their student may be housed in the hotel when they commit late and still make the choice to come. It is for 1 year and then they get the perks after their 1st year. There are many freshman that come to FL so they can work on their tans, live on the beach, and party. You will lose these students whether they live on campus or in the hotel. Why penalize the serious students who know the rules of the game coming into the school? I have an upcoming potential student that was going to come to UT but now I will not allow her to come. I will make sure she picks a school where she can live on campus all 4 years. If I w

I am a UT parent. This decision makes no sense and is an insult to the students who have waited their turn to obtain the housing they want. UT continues to put it's money and focus on the wrong place.
An example of what I mean....
We toured UT yesterday. The new Starbucks on campus is more luxurious that any other I've seen. It is part of Starbucks "Reserve Line", which I never heard of. According to the Tampa Bat Business Journal;
Reserve line is "a special collection of rare, small-lot coffees which are selected from farms all over the world by our experienced coffee team and delivered each week,"
So UT is focused on bringing high end coffee to the campus while ignoring the housing needs of the students.
Would it not be better to use the money to build on campus dorms instead of over the top coffee shops? Is a run down old hotel the best UT can afford for it's students?
This decision is just one more example of how confused the administrations priorities have become.
Reverse this decision!!!!!

As a UT parent, I am extremely disheartened to learn about the new housing rule at UT. The decision to attend UT encompassed the ability to live on campus, in a safe environment and in close proximity to classes and activities. It would be wise to consider the desires of your existing students and families before you seek to grow the university. I certainly hope you'd reconsider this decision and put the interests of your existing students and parents first.

I will TRANSFER if underclassmen get first priority for dorm rooms. It is unfair for upperclassmen. Underclassmen should work their way up to Palms and Kennedy. No joke, not only me but I have heard many people say that they will transfer if underclassmen get first priority.

As a parent of a UT student the housing was something that appealed to me because being on campus helps to develop the student. Upper class men help the freshman acclimate to college life. I hope UT will reconsider this rule change after hearing the concerns of all involved.
