It is about making a CHOICE. Some students choose to be a part of a club or do extra community service or even study hard for academic excellence. Why should they not be recognized? These are available to all students. There is a reason that the majority of high schools out there still award cords. Are Skyline & Liberty doing away with them also? I don’t think so.

This change made me really disappointed, because I was looking forward to getting adornments, and I feel almost robbed of it. I hope that this decision will be reversed.

My son just graduated from IHS... He wore us cords proudly and felt a sense of accomplishment for his hard work! If I had a student still at IHS - I would be infuriated... don’t take this privilege away from deserving students.

Our children work extremely hard and they should be allowed to wear their cords and stoles. It feels as if we are marginalizing their accomplishments to make others feel better about themselves. The high school place an extreme amount of pressure on theses children and I believe that the kids should be honored for the work they put in.

I fully support this petition. While I believe all students need to be recognized for their achievements and the entire ceremony should not be dedicated to a select group, I do believe it is appropriate to allow those that work hard to stand out in the crowd and be recognized for going above and beyond through hard work and dedication to their education. Please reverse this ruling of the committee.
