People who worked to be a great student deserve more recognition than those who skipped class, did not try, etc.

The purpose of a graduation ceremony is to celebrate the success of every graduating senior, and to further celebrate those who took their four years beyond the mere expectations. Those who participated in clubs or sports, or who earned a superb GPA-- among other cord-meriting endeavors-- did something to improve their communities or, at the very least, learn something more about themselves and their talents. Such people do not deserve to blend into a crowd of purple gowns, because their experiences don't describe the greater population; they are special. They deserve to be seen. To remove graduation cords would be to undervalue the significance of their achievement(s).

I definitely agree with this stance, as is it unfair for students who have worked hard and deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. Also in breaking this tradition it is unfair for future students to not be treated equally to previous classes. It is also unacceptable to be able to buy a chord, because students should not have the alternative to pay instead of working hard for it.

I’ve worked on getting an honors cord in choir for two years i don’t think that it’s fair if you take it away from those of us who actually earned them.
