I support the request for the establishment of retirement incentives for staff employees congruent with the university's recent incentivization for faculty retirements.

Yes, staff make this university function! I’d extend this to all bargaining units as well as the PSSO. It’s a humane approach to the radical downsizing being pushed in the name of this crisis, but only partly related to the current crisis.

Our staff need not only this retirement incentive, but they need the tuition support for themselves and their children to continue.

Our leadership is telling us that they are considering all options, including early retirement incentives for the Faculty, but not the staff. Helping people retire would do three things at a minimum: It clears some salaries that have grown beyond the current pay charts; it will give younger employees an opportunity to advance - rather than be laid off; and it would give departments the opportunity to do some much need reorganizing of positions. With a 16 month hiring freeze, we could do a lot of internal cleaning.

As a recent retiree from the faculty, i believe the staff, who do so much for us and for the University, need a definite incentive too.

This is a no-brainer, a win-win for our staff and the public face of the university.

Do the right thing, WMU administrators! So your respect and appreciation, understanding and gratitude for the University’s support staff. They have carry the weight of the University everyday and should be given the option to have a say in their future.

The incentive should be extended to those who have made the hard choice in the last two months to retire early due to pay cuts and draining their sick leave, due to lack of work. Keeping the morale strong amount staff is essential during this time. I stand with WMU staff and support this petition.
