That's absolutely crazy the league has not retired the number 9 , yes other great players have worn the number 9 but Gordie Howe is the only number 9 sorry Bobby Hull but the main man Gordie deserves the number to be retired

As I have said before, retiring#9 is a wonderful idea to honor Mr Howe but we can't forget he's not the only great player to wear that number and there are some good players still wearing the number now. If the current players can wear their numbers until the end of their careers I can see not assigning the number anymore. I don't think it can go any further than that, you can't take anyone's number away from them in the middle of their NHL career

This is a very touching idea! i love it! but im kinda concerned with doing this with wayne and now gordie.. only concern is more people will want this for various players! i am all for it, but .. I sure dont know how well the NHL will receive the idea.
