Rethink Shelter Locations

Shameful that the City has decided to locate a shelter in a parking lot on a residential street close to a seniors home and schools. Even more shameful that the local taxpayers have been ignored by the City, especially by our elected councilor, except to provide us with property tax increases while they devalue the neighborhood.

Not an appropriate location for a homeless shelter.

Shelters should not be in neighbourhoodsof this nature whereby staff are giving the drugs needles etc. This is a serious disease & these lost souls are not surving. i thought after crack came fentenyl and people were dying. wht would drug dealers want people to die, because with every death, there are 2x plus the number that are addicted. city & government get with the program look what happened last year innocent lady leavibg her work shot by a stray bullet in the junction pretty much next to the harm reduction site. solution look what Portugal does. cant Canada be smart enough to look at this as a crisis , the needs of many not just the addicts, yes they have families too. its a DISEASE treat the disease properly, Drug free treatment centres.

Deal with this Disease properly aa many in community are at risk to the consequences of Harm reduction hubs. ii ynderstand this propsal is for manly men 55 plus Rehab can be successful ( portugal has a very successful program ( not a pop up tent, give them drugs & let tgem sleep under the tent. NODRUGS, GIVE THEM A Real home,controlled programs, no Drugs It takes 6-8 mths but does work... no more tradgeties like what happened last year in the junction where these harm reduction places are. LOOK at what programs PORTUGAL has for Canadians its very expensive only those with money, families & it works.. invest in buildibg residential program to get these people off the streets out of the tents by the lakeshore & 5 th, Islington do you see what goes on when its dark outside by tge lake.. open your eyes... this is not appropriate location for these lost souls this is a disease & needs to be treated properly...

As a community we should be purposeful, but we need to be fair across other communities to ensure the prosperity and security of this one.

Our area is doing more than its fair share in assisting the homeless citizens. Home owners in affluent areas should step up the plate and find space in their neighbourhood for these unfortunate people.

Support New Toronto by meeting the needs of existing residents and businesses, and provide an environment that encourages businesses to flourish.

There's too many shelters in this area.We need to stop this this is ridiculous

An 80-bed facility shoe-horned into an established residential area on Gerrard is a bad idea. It appears that the only factor the city took into consideration was cost. There are no existing supports in the area for the residents. No on-site security measures are planned, beyond calling 911. How can a facility of this magnitude be created with complete disregard for community safety? Based on the presentation more thought was given to landscaping aesthetics than the impact this project will have on the existing family-centric neighbourhood. This is not NIMBY, it’s SAFETY.

Why are we moving towards more shelters in our area? As a community we are supporting so many well run shelters and the Daily Bread Food Bank and we also have the Toronto South Detention Centre and Correctional Facility nearby. It's not NIMBY to be opposed to this emergency shelter on Third St. It's common sense. The community area isn't large enough to support another shelter. And who planned it within arms length of 2 elementary schools, daycares and Woods Manor?? Homelessness is a real issue. We need serious planning that works for everyone. And what about all the businesses in the area? Getting rid of all the Green P Parking? Some of these businesses are struggling to keep afloat. This decision was certainly not well thought out and thrown at our community with no care for the tax payer. No one seems to respect the hard working families when it comes to these half baked decisions. The only time Olivia Chow and the Toronto Councillors are interested in our voice, is when it's time to collect on its hefty Property Tax Bill. We're simply made to feel shameful to have an informed opinion on what is appropriate for the safety of our area. Do better.

Relocate the shelter

As a resident of Southwest Scarborough, near the 2535 Gerrard Street East proposed site location, I (and my young family that lives in this neighborhood), do not support this homeless shelter location, at this site, as it's close to child care facilities and schools, and lots of existing residential housing. Thank you for your consideration.

The proposed shelter on Gerrard St. Should be relocated. There is no support services for the shelter residents in the area and it is way too close to children’s area.

Concerned about the homeless shelter in this neighborhood

First priority must be safety of the residents who live in the neighborhood/ward. These facilities cannot be located in single family dwelling areas, or near schools and day care.

Do not open this site near schools and seniors home as well as retail . This neighbourhood already supports most of the cities undesirable initiatives . Stick it in your own neighborhoods It’s like you guys at city hall blindly make decisions with no thought or facts on the ground of nearby effects . You work for the people . And the people are not blind to your incompetance
