I'd be willing to pay my home electricity unit rate for on-street charger usage, not a fee plus a per minute rate. I will be taking the petrol car on journeys outside of the car's range, it'd be cheaper!

This is a joke pricing structure
This would meen cost for me to comute = 2 fc per day =2 hrs @ 30c min = €36 per day
X 5 = €180 a week Ice car only cost me €.70 on diesel .
Will be going back to diesel.
Would say now try to sell your ev car now will be hard as it has lost its value
These cars will be come the nest lada .

Was seriously considering switching to a EV until the ESB dropped this bomb of a pricing structure. With petrol/diesel prices projected to stay low into the future ESB may just have killed the EV in Ireland with their greed.

I understand that a charge can be applied as in this world I doubt it can come free forever. However the current proposal is none sense, pro rata it needs to remain way below the cost of petrol/diesel to keep ev users stay still interested.

This broadly unfair pricing structure will encourage abuse of charging points, while seriously discouraging their occasional use, key to those cross-country journeys that are essential to pushing EVs beyond their fragile beginnings. How crazy that such a promising, green, health-promoting initiative is about to get discouraged by ill-thought through, badly communicated, somewhat arrogant decision of an uncaring, deaf corporation.

Back to diesel and drive normally (instead of nursing the ev around the place) and no waiting to charge or queueing to get at a charger.

I wholeheartedly agree that the charging plans are excessive, I will be returning my Nissan Leaf when its PCP is up if these are the conditions under which charging will be costed.

This is greed by ESB. How much revenue do they expect to generate by this?
Surely the EV fleet in the country is not big enough that ESB will make a substantial profit (if any)

We already have a " really great deal" by having the current system!
Charging EV owners now is an unfortunate decision as it will diminish the attractiveness of the EV concept.

Flat pricing is a greedy, lazy and damaging method of charging for the power used. I'm happy to pay per Kw/h. This fee is unfair, and an amazing disincentive for potential new EV owners.

These charges not only make EV driving potentially MORE expensive than petrol/diesel they will also surely discourage new owners from entering the market.
I would like to specifically know why a per kWh price has not been suggested for the FCP's - are ESB unable to bill per kWh ?
This will divide EV owners into 2 camps - those that charge at home only for short journey's, and those that try to maximise a monthly charge causing contention at SCP's.
Finally - how does this help government policy in this area and does the Minister for Transport support the new charge structure ?

ESB can't say what other options will be available next year as they are 'commercially sensitive'. Last time I checked they were the only player in the EV charging market. ? (sounds like a bit of a bogey to me).
My votes in next years general election will be 'politician sensitive'.

I doubt our Energy Regulator was involved here either. Even if it was it is just another sleepy quango with an inability to reel in the likes of ESB.
